About The Opportunity

The Clinical Nurse Consultant 3 (CNC3), Complex Care and Frequent User Program, is an expert practitioner in mental health, drug and alcohol, pain management and/or chronic and complex care, responsible for implementing and evaluating a range of clinical interventions that provide alternative ways for patients to safely self-manage their health needs without frequently using NSW Ambulance. An integral part of the CNC3 role will be providing advanced leadership and supporting the Manager with the evaluation, development and service improvements of the Complex Care and Frequent User Management Program, in line with identified program needs, in addition to addressing strategic and organisational priorities for future service development. The CNC3 role will consist of a combination of advanced clinical responsibilities, balanced with a project focus inclusive of quality improvement and or/service development initiatives.

Step into this pivotal leadership role where you will have the opportunity to:

  • Champion compassionate, innovative care strategies that reduce reliance on NSW Ambulance services and improve outcomes for patients with complex health needs.
  • Design and implement personalised care plans that help patients confidently manage mental health, chronic pain, and substance use challenges outside of emergency settings.
  • Lead the growth and evaluation of the Complex Care and Frequent User Management Program, ensuring it meets evolving patient and system needs.
  • Collaborate with clinical teams and senior leaders to guide strategic initiatives that support better health outcomes and deliver impactful service improvements that shape future models of care across NSW Ambulance.
  • Combine advanced clinical practice with project leadership to deliver innovative, patient-centred solutions that make a lasting difference.

About You

We're looking for someone who has:
  • Current registration as a Registered Nurse with Authority to Practice from the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA)
  • A minimum of seven years' full-time post-graduate experience, including five years' full-time equivalent in the specialty field
  • Postgraduate nursing qualifications relevant to the specialty field, or evidence of working towards such qualifications, or other qualifications/experience deemed appropriate
  • A demonstrated high level of clinical expertise, critical thinking, and advanced clinical reasoning in delivering person-centred, evidence-based, and trauma-informed care and case management for vulnerable patients with complex care needs
  • Proven leadership in strategic and clinical service planning, and experience in supporting organisational and cultural change
  • A strong understanding of and active participation in clinical and organisational risk management, clinical governance, and quality improvement initiatives, including the delivery of education
  • The ability to prioritise competing demands and work both autonomously and collaboratively as part of the Complex Care and Frequent User Management Program multidisciplinary team
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for building strong partnerships with internal and external stakeholders, often with competing interests
  • Strong written communication skills, with the ability to prepare reports, policies, and formal correspondence
  • Competence in using Microsoft Office packages, with a willingness to train in additional software platforms used by NSW Ambulance
