About The Role

An exciting entry level opportunity has arisen at Thiess Mt Pleasant. The Technical Services Assistant is designed for recent school leavers seeking hands-on experience in the mining industry. This structured development role provides exposure across various technical and operational departments, including surveying, geology, planning, operations, and drill & blast. The successful candidate will work closely with experienced professionals and gain valuable industry knowledge, preparing them for further study, apprenticeships, or ongoing employment in the mining sector.

Responsibilities

• Provide foundational training and exposure to technical services in a mining operation.
• Support recent school leavers in building practical workplace skills.
• Promote safe work practices and an understanding of mine site operations.
• Develop confidence using digital tools, mine systems, and technical equipment.
• Offer career insight into technical mining roles such as mining engineer, surveyor, or geologist.

About You / Qualifications

You're a recent school leaver looking to kick-start a career in the mining industry. You're curious, motivated, and eager to learn through real, hands-on experience. Whether you're interested in geology, engineering, surveying, or simply want to understand how a mine operates day-to-day, you're ready to get involved and give it your best.

What you bring:

• Local to the Upper Hunter Valley Region.
• Can commit to a Monday to Friday work roster.
• Hold a current drivers license.
• A genuine interest in mining, science or engineering.
• Willingness to work outdoors and get involved in physical and technical tasks.
• A strong work ethic and positive attitude toward learning.
• Good communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team.

Additional note: You don't need previous experience—just the right mindset, a readiness to learn, and an interest in exploring where a mining career could take you.
