The Victorian Institute of Technology (VIT) is a dual sector education provider committed to providing students with the best possible educational opportunities and outcomes appropriate to their needs. VIT offers Business, English, Hospitality, and Information Technology courses to domestic and international students, including Bachelor of Information Technology and Systems, Master of Information Technology and Systems, Bachelor of Business, Master of Business Administration, ELICOS, and Certificate III to Advanced Diploma of Hospitality programs.

The Role

VIT is currently looking for an Associate Dean of Business Studies to join their well-established Faculty of Business Studies. The appointee will be responsible for providing leadership of the Business discipline, covering the Bachelor and Master of Business courses. The position is based at either VIT's Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, or Geelong campus.

A highly competitive remuneration package, commensurate with experience, employment record, and qualifications, will be negotiated with the successful candidate. Remuneration may also include relocation support where appropriate.

For suitably qualified international candidates, VIT may consider sponsoring and funding visa application fees, subject to sponsorship approval by the Australian Department of Home Affairs.

Key Criteria
Role and Responsibilities
  • Providing leadership of the Business discipline covering the Bachelor and Master of Business courses and delivery at VIT campuses and online.
  • Leading and facilitating adherence to VIT policies, procedures, and compliance with quality and governance frameworks, including the Higher Education Standards Framework, the National Code, and Professional Associations standards.
  • Supervising and coordinating courses at various VIT campuses.
  • Teaching higher education courses (undergraduate and postgraduate).
  • Supporting senior leaders in implementing an academic scholarship culture.
  • Maintaining effective communication with faculty, staff, students, and external stakeholders, and collaborating with other departments within VIT.
  • Participating in governance committees and activities.
  • Providing support, guidance, and mentorship to faculty members.
Ideal Profile
Qualifications and Skills Required
Leadership and Management
  • Minimum 3 years' experience in a leadership role.
  • Ability to manage and work collaboratively in a collegiate environment, building strong teams and coordinating functions aligned with strategic objectives.
  • Contributing to the development and achievement of strategic goals and maintaining a commitment to shared objectives.
Teaching
  • Experience and knowledge of curriculum planning, content delivery, and assessment in the relevant field of education.
  • Ability to deliver and assess higher education courses.
  • Enthusiasm for educating international students in higher education.
External Relationships and Partnerships
  • Experience working collaboratively with partner organizations, industry, and community groups.
  • Ability to develop educational networks domestically and internationally.
Personal Attributes and Qualifications
  • Doctoral qualification (AQF 10) or equivalent, or a combination of Master's degree (AQF 9) and relevant experience. Teaching qualification is desirable.
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills and ability to manage staff and students effectively.
  • Scholarly engagement in a discipline relevant to VIT.
