Job Description - FY26: Teacher, Special Education (LAD), Silver Creek MS, 1.0 FTE (25004DK)

Job Specific Information: This position supports our LAD program to assist students in the general education classroom and/or our Resource Class for students with IEPs needing additional support. MCPS Official Job Description:

Summary: Under the direction of the school principal and special education supervisor, the teacher provides instruction and support to students with disabilities, collaborates with general education teachers, monitors outcomes, and assists in developing IEPs.

Physical Demands: As required by job duties.

Special Requirements: Attendance at school meetings and activities outside instructional hours is required. Teachers in special education roles must complete specific MCPS courses, including behavioral management and crisis intervention, and support behavioral interventions as needed.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities: Knowledge of MCPS curriculum, special education programs, IEPs, learning theory, differentiated instruction, data collection, research-based reading instruction, multicultural education, assessments, and relevant policies (ESSA, IDEA). Ability to support instruction, adapt materials, and communicate effectively with students, parents, and staff. Familiarity with MCPS Teacher Professional Growth System standards.

Education, Training, and Experience: Bachelor's degree in special education from an accredited institution. Fluency in learning theory, differentiated instruction, developmental reading, child development, applied behavior analysis, and assessment. Student teaching in the relevant area or two years of teaching experience at the appropriate level. Other relevant education and experience may be considered.

Certification: Meets Maryland State Department of Education standards for SPC I in special education. Content area certification is desirable.
