Sydney, New South Wales, Australia Avant Mutual Full time
Overview

Join to apply for the Product Manager role at Avant Mutual. Based in Sydney CBD head office.

Avant is Australia's leading medical defence organisation with a heritage of protecting medical professionals for over 130 years. We represent 90,000 health practitioners and medical students across Australia, delivering products and services to meet professional, personal and practice needs. Our vision is to be the most trusted professional partner in supporting doctors throughout their lives and careers.

As a mutual organisation, owned by members, our members are at the centre of all we do. We advocate for improvements in the healthcare system and in quality, safety and professionalism in medicine through education and research activities.

About our role

We are seeking an experienced and innovative Product Manager to own the end-to-end product management of Avant's medical indemnity insurance products, including Practitioner and Practice insurance. The role reports to the Product and Portfolio Manager and is based in Sydney.

We are seeking a thought leader to manage Avant's medical indemnity products and align understanding of the intent and extent of cover through ongoing training and communication. As a member-owned organisation, we design products and services from the member standpoint, using human-centered design to improve the member experience through product management. You will be an engaging person with experience in product management and strong relationship-building skills across the company, acting as an internal ambassador for our products. This role includes pursuing continuous improvement to ensure policy content is understandable by members and stakeholders. You will be tasked with understanding our product range, recommending changes to existing products, reviewing opportunities for new products, and ensuring continuous improvement. Regular stakeholder training is expected, so strong communication skills are required.

The key responsibilities include:

  • End-to-end product design, implementation, and management of Avant's existing and new products;
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders to ensure alignment in coverage and direction across the Avant Group;
  • Identify competitiveness of Avant's products and make recommendations in line with the Group's risk and governance framework;
  • Support the business in relation to Avant's products including providing training, answering staff queries, and assisting in member queries;
  • Act as the subject matter expert in projects affecting core medical indemnity products;
  • Create a shared understanding throughout the business regarding how the products operate and how they apply to our members; manage an iterative process of updating products to improve member engagement.

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Previous demonstrated experience in insurance or a related field (banking or financial services) in a technical role such as underwriting, broking, product or legal;
  • Proven success in writing and maintaining claims-made policies;
  • Strong change management experience with excellent stakeholder and relationship management skills;
  • Demonstrated understanding of a legal or compliance environment within the insurance field;
  • Ability to develop business cases supporting new product concepts incorporating member/customer perspective;
  • Ability to present or report on complex matters to non-technical audiences;
  • Strong reporting skills with high attention to detail;
  • Strong problem solving skills, innovative and member-based design thinking and drive to succeed;
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, both written and verbal.

Avant offers a range of benefits and opportunities to enable you to make a difference, learn, and grow in your career. For further information, please contact Nico Touze, Head of Talent Acquisition, on 0467 289 985.

Equal Opportunity Employer Avant supports doctors so they can serve Australia's diverse communities. We welcome applications from people of all backgrounds, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, people from culturally diverse communities, LGBTQIA+ individuals, people with disabilities, and those with caring responsibilities. Our inclusive workplace is somewhere everyone can succeed.

Ready to join us? If you're passionate about supporting Australia's healthcare professionals, we'd love to hear from you. If you require any adjustments during the recruitment process, please contact us at careers@avant.org.au
