Role and contextThe School of Isolated and Distance Education (SIDE) serves students across Western Australia and provides intensive English language support for recently arrived regional primary and secondary students. SIDE delivers Foundation, General and ATAR EALD courses for CALD and Aboriginal EALD students, and supports online distance education with blended learning programs.
Responsibilities- Develop and deliver rigorous and engaging EALD blended learning programs suited to online distance education, including online teaching and occasional visits to students and schools.
- Contribute to the development and delivery of inclusive, culturally and linguistically responsive teaching programs; work closely with staff in partner schools, students, families, local communities, SIDE staff and other stakeholders.
- Provide advice and guidance to school leaders and teachers regarding goal setting, pathway planning, and applying the EALD Progress Map to make consistent judgements.
- Collaborate to support recently arrived EALD students in the Beginning or Emerging phases of acquiring Standard Australian English.
- Engage in professional collaboration to support equity of outcomes for EALD students across Western Australia.
- Participate in SIDE's training and support programs; work within a distributed network of SIDE teaching facilities and venues as required.
- Occasionally travel to regional schools to meet student needs, with planned visits negotiated with staff.
- Relevant EALD qualification and recent classroom experience in an EALD setting preferred.
- High-level communication skills and the ability to build respectful, collaborative relationships with students, parents and teachers.
- Hold an eligible teacher qualification and registration.
- Be an Australian or New Zealand citizen, permanent resident, or have a valid visa with work rights for the term of the appointment.
- Be eligible for a WA Working with Children Check and a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check, with a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education's Screening Unit before starting.
