Geelong, Victoria, Australia Victoria Police Full time
Overview

We're looking for someone just like you to join us at Victoria Police. Someone with great communication skills, who loves being part of a team, and has a passion for protecting the Victorian community. Across Victoria, police officers carry out a range of diverse, rewarding and challenging duties to help keep our community safe. With changes to entry requirements and a streamlined police training course, there's never been a better time to apply. At every step of the way—from your first day at the Victoria Police Academy—we provide you with everything you need to succeed. You'll even earn a wage while you train. If you discover a particular interest, you could apply for a specialist field or promotion. Your career pathways are endless.

The duties of a police officer

As a general duties police officer, no two days are ever the same. General duties officers undertake a variety of duties on shift, including:

  • working with the community
  • preventing anti-social behaviour
  • promoting public safety
  • enforcing road safety
The possibilities of this role

Along with paid training and multiple benefits, your future could include:

  • enjoying multiple opportunities for career progression
  • learning specialist skills in fields such as the Critical Incident Response Team, Highway Patrol or Forensics (after completing a period as a general duties officer)
  • mentoring others in your team or acting as a community liaison
About you

There is no one key attribute, skill, or experience that Victoria Police looks for in our candidates. Instead, it's your overall suitability for the role. Here's what we look for:

  • people who are 18 years or older
  • strong communication skills (verbal and written)
  • healthy level of fitness
  • good character and reputation
  • Australian citizens or Australian permanent residents (New Zealand citizens must have a Special Category visa or the ability to obtain one to apply)
  • an Australian or New Zealand driver licence, however, you must transfer to a Victorian licence before commencing employment (probationary licence is acceptable)
Salary and benefits

We offer job security and a range of great perks including flexible rostering, on the job training and professional development.

Once you are sworn in as a constable, you will be paid a starting salary of $81,612 plus allowances per annum. In addition, there are shift penalties and overtime payments available, and as you advance in the ranks, so does your wage.

Allowances and leave: a great work-life balance with up to nine weeks recreation leave and 16 weeks parental leave, plus study leave, long-service leave and additional superannuation.

Paid training: you are paid a salary of $59,405 per annum during your 12 weeks of training at the Victoria Police Academy.

Specialise after a period of time and receive training and support to progress through the ranks.

Salary and benefits are as per the current Victoria Police Enterprise Agreement. To learn more about the role or to attend an information session, visit our Police officer careers recruitment hub.
