Network Engineering at XeroPlatform Elements is a cross-functional agile infrastructure development team. The Platform Elements team builds platform products to enable Xero development teams to build and ship software in a fast, reliable and secure manner. Platform Elements leverages modern cloud computing tooling and continuous integration practices to reduce cognitive load for Xero Product teams.
As a Network Engineer specialising in AWS, Azure and/or GCP infrastructure, you will design, develop, and maintain network solutions and critical infrastructure patterns leveraging cloud-based technologies. You will utilise your expertise in AWS services, Terraform, Gateways, Connectivity, DNS management, WAF, and CI/CD practices to design and optimise network infrastructure for scalability, performance and security. Experience with multiple clouds is highly desirable.
What you will do- Collaborate on the design and implementation of AWS-based network infrastructure, including Transit Gateway, PrivateLink, and evolving technologies like CloudWAN
- Develop Terraform modules, templates and providers to automate provisioning and configuration of AWS resources for consistency across environments
- Configure and manage AWS gateways (e.g., VPN, Direct Connect) to secure connections between on-premises and cloud environments
- Manage DNS services and records for efficient name resolution and traffic routing
- Create and maintain practices to help developers understand connectivity issues and patterns for customer-focused solutions
- Monitor and analyse network performance using AWS CloudWatch, Prometheus or similar tools; identify bottlenecks and optimise configurations
- Integrate network provisioning into CI/CD pipelines using Atlantis, GitHub Actions or AWS CodePipeline
- Automate testing, deployment, and rollback procedures to streamline releases
- Provide safe, secure approaches to enable developers to drive changes in network infrastructure
- Proficiency in AWS services including VPC, EC2, S3, IAM, and Route 53
- Strong experience with infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform or CloudFormation
- Knowledge of DNS management, including domain registration and DNS policies
- Understanding of CI/CD principles and tools such as Jenkins, GitHub Actions, or AWS CodePipeline
- Programming skills in Python, Bash, Go, or JavaScript
- Proven ability to work collaboratively in agile environments and contribute to continuous improvement
