About Mental Health, Drug and Alcohol Services (MHDAS)

MHDAS provides integrated and recovery oriented mental health, drugs and alcohol assessment, treatment and community support to people of all ages within the Barwon region experiencing, or at risk of experiencing, mental health and drug & alcohol issues, and their families.

Our service is internationally recognised for its innovative clinical programs and integrated models of practice that are client centred, accessible and family inclusive. MHDAS is entering a new phase of co-design of our service system with people who access our services and our wider community. This will build on our nationally recognized unique cultural approach to the challenges of recovery-oriented service delivery to redesign our service system.

About The Facility

Our major sites include University Hospital Geelong in Geelong's CBD, the McKellar Centre precinct in North Geelong, Barwon Health North in Norlane, and residential aged care facilities spanning the region. Comprehensive mental health, community health and dental services are delivered through various programs across the Barwon South West Region, including Torquay and Colac.

The Infant and Child Mental Health and Wellbeing Service is responsible for delivery of specialist evidence based mental health assessments and treatments to women in the perinatal period, infants and children up to 11 years. Specialist clinics are provided for perinatal and autism assessments. The service also provides specialist training and consultation to other child and family services.

The Perinatal and Infant Mental Health Service (PIMHS) is a specialist clinic based within the broader Infant and Child Mental Health and Wellbeing Service. The PIMHS service is responsible for delivery of specialist evidence based mental health assessments and treatments to women in the perinatal period and infants up to the age of four years. The service also provides specialist training and consultation to other mental health and maternity services.

About You

  • Holds a formal qualification in Psychiatric Nursing, Occupational Therapy, Speech Pathology, Social Work or Clinical/Forensic/Neuro Psychology.
  • Experienced clinical skills in the psychiatric assessment and treatment of infants and children up to 11 years of age.
  • Advanced clinical decision making skills regarding the management of risk in relation to children.

About The Role

As a PIMHS clinician you will work within a multidisciplinary team providing mental health assessments, treatment and consultation to women in the perinatal period, infants, their families and other professionals/services involved in their care.

Duties include:

  • Providing psychosocial and psychiatric assessments of women in the perinatal period, infants, broader family members and engaged agencies.
  • Working alongside agencies involved in the woman and infant's care, providing consultation where required.
  • Act as a resource for and provide education to health workers within Barwon Health and in the community on mental health problems, management and availability of mental health services specifically regarding perinatal and infant mental health.

Prior to commencement with Barwon Health, all new employees are required to provide a completed Barwon Health Immunity Status form and have Staff Care clearance.
