St Joseph's College is a Catholic Boys College in the tradition of the Salesians of Don Bosco. A Learning Tutor (Integration Aide) is a member of the Occhiena Team and supports student participation in regular class activities for Years 7–12. The Tutor is usually located within the Occhiena Centre at the Main Campus and Valdocco, depending on the needs of the College. The position description may be updated from time to time by the Principal to meet the College's needs.

- Learning Tutors are responsible to the Director of Learning Enhancement. They support student participation in regular class activities from Years 7–12 and work under the guidance and supervision of the subject teacher. The subject teacher is responsible for curriculum development and discipline; Learning Tutors pass observations on appropriately. In some schools, the position may be referred to as Integration Aide or school support officer.
- Learning Tutors assist students in classes, homerooms, yard (pastoral support only), excursions and camps. Each Learning Tutor has a timetable of student support; timetable alterations or redeployment are the responsibility of the Director of Learning Enhancement. Students receiving support include those on the NCCD program and those with learning challenges.
- Learning Tutors work with students to develop skills, scaffold learning, model and coach; they may withdraw a student or small group from a class if requested by the subject teacher. The subject teacher retains legal responsibility for the students. An appropriate level of supervision and management is expected of Learning Tutors. They are not responsible for the development of students' learning programs and curriculum modifications.
- It is important that individual students are provided with assistance that does not draw particular attention to their learning difficulty/disability. Timetabling indicates which students to assist; however, they work with any student within the class. Students address Learning Tutors by their formal titles with full surname.
The Occhiena Centre staff area is shared by Learning Tutors; staff areas are out of bounds to students.

- Demonstrate duty of care to students in relation to their intellectual, physical and emotional wellbeing.
- Interact with members of the community and visitors in a professional, friendly and caring manner.
- In-class support from morning homeroom until the end of the school day, including administration or preparation tasks after daily student support duties.
- Attendance at daily morning briefings and in morning homeroom.
- Student assistance within the regular class setting.
- Working with subject teachers to implement student goals and strategies to maximise participation and learning.
- Other duties as deemed appropriate by the Director of Learning Enhancement and/or Principal/Deputy Principals.
- Encouraging students to participate in learning and social activities.
- Student assistance on a withdrawal basis from a mainstream class to work with 1–6 students at a time.
- Passing on concerns regarding at-risk students to the Director of Learning Enhancement.
- Attendance at Occhiena Team meetings and College staff briefings; participation in professional learning.
- Student assistance in exam support programs or in VCE/VCE VM in line with VCAA requirements.
- Implementation of Years 7 and 8 literacy and numeracy support programs.
- Yard support at Main Campus and/or Valdocco; small group tutoring; supervision of Homework Tuition Program.
- Facilitation of special programs e.g. QuickSmart Maths and Numeracy.
- Attendance at Program Support Meetings providing feedback on student performance and relevant behaviours.
- Participation in excursions, camps and retreats as required by the Principal.
- Other duties are determined by timetabling and qualifications/experience.
- Participation in appropriate Professional Development and Training as determined by the Director of Learning Enhancement and Principal/Deputy Principals.
- Working with individual students and small groups.
- Providing an extra pair of hands in the classroom and supporting literacy and numeracy programs.
- Encouraging and praising student work; prompting and re-engagement; interpreting teacher instructions.
- Reading to or with students and supporting learners with disabilities in practical tasks.
- Assisting with behaviour management and supporting students with hearing or communication difficulties.
- Support and participate in the faith life of St Joseph's College including commitment to the Salesian ethos.
- Suitable qualifications and experience e.g. qualification as an Integration Aide; experience as an Integration Aide.
- Knowledge of relevant software e.g. Word and SIMON (Learning Management System).
- Well-developed interpersonal, organisational and communication skills.
- Ability to demonstrate confidentiality, loyalty and professionalism.
- Ability to work effectively independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to problem-solve and seek assistance as required.
- Knowledge of Child Safety, Reportable Conduct, Privacy, OHS.
- Current First Aid training at Level 2 or equivalent (or willingness to obtain); current WWCC.
- Commitment to ongoing professional learning.
- The Learning Tutor is employed as an Education Support Employee under the CEMEA 2022. This position is full-time or part-time depending on the needs of the College. This position is usually classified as Category B depending on the needs of the College.
- The salary level is determined by the qualifications, skills and experience of the employee; employees are required to participate in an Annual Review Process.
- Start and finish times may vary between 7:30am and 6pm (e.g., 8am–4pm).
- The College provides a paid morning tea break and an unpaid 30-minute (minimum) lunch break (or 45-minute lunch with Principal approval).
