Role: Integration Aide / Learning Tutor position at Melbourne Archdiocese Catholic Schools – St Joseph's College.

Overview

St Joseph's College is a Catholic Boys College in the tradition of the Salesians of Don Bosco. A Learning Tutor supports students from Years 7–12 and works under the guidance of the subject teacher. The role may be referred to as Integration Aide, school support officer or learning support staff in different contexts. The Occhiena Centre (Main Campus and Valdocco) provides support for students with a range of abilities and needs.

Child Safe Standards

• Committed to the safety and wellbeing of all children and young people.
• Understands the Child Safe Standards and legal obligations under Ministerial Order No. 1359.
• A suitable person to be engaged in working with children and young people.
• Understands and commits to Child Safe Standards and expectations relating to MACS, PROTECT, VRQA and VIT.
• Understands and commits to Child Safety protocols, Codes of Conduct and to ensuring the Child Safe focus of St Joseph's College.

Occhiena Centre (Main Campus and Valdocco)

The Occhiena Centre provides support, assistance, consultation and specialist programs. It works with students from Year 7 to Year 12 and recognises the role of the Salesian tradition.

Learning Tutor Duties and Responsibilities

• In-class support from morning homeroom until end of school day; complete administration or preparation tasks as required.
• Attend daily morning briefings and homeroom; assist in class to implement student goals and strategies in collaboration with subject teachers.
• Pass observations to the teacher as appropriate; supervise safety matters and pass concerns on immediately when needed.
• Support students in regular class settings, yards, excursions and camps; manage timetables with the Director of Learning Enhancement.
• Assist students on the NCCD program and those with learning challenges; help develop skills, provide scaffolding, modelling and coaching.
• Withdraw a student or small group from class if requested by the subject teacher; maintain appropriate supervision.
• Adhere to College policies including Child Safety and the Child Safety Code of Conduct; participate in Occhiena Team meetings and staff briefings.
• Foster a friendly, respectful relationship with students and staff; use formal titles when addressing students.

• Proficient in software such as Synergetic, SIMON and Microsoft Office.
• Confidentiality, loyalty and professionalism; ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Ability to problem-solve, seek assistance when required and support students with diverse needs.

Key Selection Criteria

• Commitment to the faith life of St Joseph's College and the Salesian ethos.
• Qualifications and experience as an Integration Aide or similar.
• Knowledge of relevant software and learning management systems.
• Strong interpersonal, organisational and communication skills.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism; adhere to Child Safety and related policies.
• Current First Aid Level 2 (or willingness to obtain) and WWCC.

Employment Conditions

Position is full-time or part-time as required, classified as Category B where applicable. Salary determined by the position description and qualifications/experience. Annual review process required. Start and finish times may vary (e.g., 7:30am – 6:00pm; typical window 8:00am – 4:00pm). Includes a paid morning tea break and unpaid lunch break (per policy). This description may be modified by the Principal.
