Overview

Toowong State School is seeking applications for a Senior Speech Language Pathologist (Clinical) to join our Deaf and Hard of Hearing Service (DHHS). The base school location is flexible and negotiable. This role provides high-level clinical expertise and professional leadership within a statewide service that supports students who are deaf or hard of hearing across Queensland, with a focus on improving student outcomes.

Your Responsibilities
  • Provide high-level clinical expertise and professional leadership in the delivery of evidence-based speech language pathology services across schools and regions.
  • Guide and support speech language pathologists across the state in applying complex, evidence-informed practices to enhance student learning outcomes, particularly for students with diverse communication needs.
  • Collaborate with educators, families and other professionals to ensure students who are deaf or hard of hearing have equitable access to high-quality learning.
  • Participate in service planning at school and whole-of-state levels.
  • Prepare written papers and reports, maintain records as required by the department, and present papers related to the department's speech language pathology services for Deaf and Hard of Hearing Service students internally and externally.
  • Maintain currency of high-level knowledge and skills relating to education-based speech language pathology services for all children including those who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing.
About the role and the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Service

The Deaf and Hard of Hearing Service (DHHS) is a statewide, borderless service. The ideal candidate will have fluent Auslan skills and experience in conducting assessments and delivering therapy for students who use Auslan as their primary or preferred mode of communication. You will contribute specialised knowledge to support inclusive education practices, collaborating with educators, families and other professionals to ensure students who are deaf or hard of hearing have equitable access to high-quality learning.

Work arrangements

Full-time position, with flexible work arrangements considered, including job-sharing between part-time applicants.

Qualifications and requirements
  • Qualified Speech Language Pathologist registered or eligible to practice in Queensland.
  • Fluent Auslan (Australian Sign Language) or significant proficiency; experience with Auslan-based assessments and therapy preferred.
  • Experience delivering speech language pathology services in educational settings and the ability to work collaboratively with educators and families.
  • Ability to provide professional leadership and supervise or mentor other SLPs.
  • Current Working with Children clearance (blue card) or the ability to obtain one.
  • Commitment to inclusive education and evidence-based practice.
