Executive Director, Default Market Offer and Consumers, EL2, Australian Energy Regulator (EA2025/170) — ongoing appointment at the AER. The successful candidate will lead the delivery of the Default Market Offer (DMO) and related policy and regulatory initiatives to ensure energy consumers are better off now and in the future. The AER focuses on secure, reliable, and affordable energy as Australia transitions to net zero emissions, with a high-performing, inclusive culture that supports autonomy and collaboration. This role may be performed from any AER office in Adelaide, Brisbane, Canberra, Melbourne, or Sydney and is available on a full-time, part-time or job-share basis.
Applicants from diverse backgrounds including First Nations peoples, people with disability, and those from different cultural backgrounds are encouraged to apply. The successful candidate may be appointed as an ongoing EL2 and may attract an additional IFA allowance depending on skills and experience. IFAs are reviewed annually and are not ongoing.
What You Will Do- Oversee and integrate the teams' diverse skills to deliver the Default Market Offer each year and to advance policy and regulatory initiatives that support energy consumers.
- Advise the Board and Senior Executive Team as a source of expertise on retail pricing, policy and regulation.
- Represent the AER and DMO/Consumers Branch to influence internal and external stakeholders on objectives.
- Ensure high-quality documentation, reporting, and communication with the EGM, Senior Leadership Team, CEO and Board on relevant projects and activities.
- Demonstrated experience leading a team in a fast-paced, large, complex, people-centred organisation.
- Substantial knowledge and experience across policy and regulatory change, stakeholder engagement, and data interpretation/management.
- Expert knowledge of Australian energy markets and the AER's role, including the political and stakeholder environment.
- Tertiary qualifications in a relevant field (or equivalent experience).
You will be asked to respond to the statement of claims of no more than 500 words and submit your resume with key outcomes or what you are most proud of in each role (2 pages maximum).
Salary and ConditionsSalary: $143,411 - $168,064 (plus 15.4% superannuation). The successful candidate will be appointed as an ongoing EL2 and may attract an additional IFA allowance depending on skills and experience. IFAs are reviewed annually and are not ongoing.
