About our Client

A market leader in their space, our client delivers professional services for prominent Australian events and facilities. This role was created to oversee and enhance the payroll function.

The Role

This leadership position reports directly to the Chief Financial Officer and oversees a team of two employees. Key responsibilities include:
  • Leveraging expertise to provide guidance and direction to the payroll team, encompassing the Payroll Manager and Payroll Officer.
  • Ensuring payroll compliance with relevant legislation, awards, taxation laws, superannuation requirements, and other statutory obligations.
  • Maintaining regular internal audits and implementing proactive measures to minimize risk and guarantee integrity.
  • Developing and managing payroll system configuration to meet evolving business needs.
  • Driving integration between the payroll system and Human Resource Information System (HRIS) in collaboration with the People & Culture department.
  • Serving as an expert on award interpretation and ensuring correct and consistent application of pay rates, penalties, loadings, and entitlements.
  • Closely collaborating with the People & Culture team to synchronize employee data, onboarding, and reporting processes.
  • Partnering with the Finance department for reconciliations, General Ledger mapping, reporting, and month-end/year-end procedures.
  • Creating and distributing regular payroll reports, metrics, and insights for senior management.
  • Identifying opportunities for system improvements, automation, and policy updates.

The Ideal Candidate

To succeed in this role, the applicant should possess:
  • Substantial experience in payroll management within a medium/large-scale organization.
  • In-depth understanding of Australian payroll legislation, modern awards, and compliance regulations.
  • Demonstrated capability in leading and developing high-performing payroll teams.
  • Proven experience in managing payroll system configuration and integrating it with HRIS platforms.
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills, accompanied by meticulous attention to detail.
  • Superb interpersonal and communication skills, allowing effective influence and engagement with stakeholders.
