Overview

Gold Coast Health is looking for a Psychiatrist to join the Older Persons Mental Health service. This is a Consultant opportunity at a 750 bed teaching hospital in a metropolitan, coastal location of Queensland serving a population of 600,000. The role includes teaching and research responsibilities, with inpatient and community-based service delivery.

Responsibilities
  • Provide inpatient and community-based psychiatry services within the Older Persons Mental Health service.
  • Engage in extensive teaching and research activities.
  • Collaborate with an integrated mental health service that includes inpatient, outpatient, and community teams.
About the Hospital and Service

This 750-bed teaching hospital serves a large metropolitan population. The Mental Health Service includes:

  • 130 inpatient beds total: 50-bed psychiatric unit with an ICU sub-unit; 10-bed acute young adult unit; 8-bed child and youth unit; 16-bed aged care unit; 59-bed extended care, rehabilitation and psychogeriatric unit.
  • Adult and child consultation/liaison services, an emergency psychiatric service, two adult and two child/adolescent community clinics, and a mobile intensive therapy team.
  • A strong culture supportive of overseas trained doctors' training requirements.

Location is described as a large, fast-growing city with year-round warm weather, beaches, nightlife and a thriving tourism industry.

Qualifications

Registration as a medical practitioner and specialist psychiatrist (FRANZCP) with the Medical Board of Australia.
