About the Opportunity

We have an excellent opportunity for a Senior Mechanical Engineer / Mechanical Engineering Change Officer to join our Maritime team working on the Hobart Class, reporting to the Engineering Manager and Platform Engineering Manager. This role is based at Garden Island, NSW.

The Engineering Change Officer – Mechanical is responsible for providing mechanical engineering services that are accurate, safe, on time, to budget, and to approved standards for the development or modification of mechanical equipment, systems, structures and/or materials.

The Engineering Change Officer – Mechanical will actively manage and develop the technical team to provide engineering output and technical support for development or modification of equipment, systems or materials; and will be responsible for the preparation, integrity and delivery of mechanical engineering outputs and services to both internal and external customers.

This role requires strong foundational knowledge/experience in mechanical engineering, as it will involve Design Acceptance Representative (DAR) responsibilities, and strong project management skills to coordinate design changes across stakeholders for approval.

The Capability Lifecycle Manager (CLCM) program works with Defence, the Australian Navy, and Defence Industry partners to deliver project management services sustaining the Royal Australian Navy Hobart Class Guided Missile Destroyers (DDG) into the next era.

This Role Will See You

• Act as an integrated member of the team and provide technical and project management leadership and oversight within your sub-domain
• Develop a thorough understanding of both ship and shore systems within your sub-domain
• Design and develop solutions, resolve engineering issues and problems for a range of situations relating to specialist knowledge area(s)
• Develop optimised mechanical system and/ or equipment detail designs and present the designs in design reviews
• Attend/Conduct project meetings, design reviews and peer reviews as required
• Ensure that all documents and artefacts are completed, reviewed and managed within appropriate standard procedures and defined work instructions
• Contribute to the project controls (schedule and budget development and tracking) and project management of Engineering Change activities within your sub-domain

About You

• Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical or Mechatronic Engineering, or Marine Engineering
• Demonstrated experience working as a mechanical engineer with experience managing projects and people
• Demonstrated experience undertaking the design review and oversight activities throughout the engineering process
• The ability to communicate and operate effectively within a dynamic, challenging environment with conflicting prioritise and managing multiple stakeholders
• The ability to be proactive and manage multiple projects at any given time
• A passion in maritime and a keen interest in developing vessels for defence. Past experience in naval/maritime is highly advantageous
• A current NV1 Clearance or eligibility to obtain
• Eligibility to be cleared for International Traffic in Arms (ITAR) regulations
