About the OPPORTUNITY –

We have an excellent opportunity for a Senior Mechanical Engineer / Mechanical Engineering Change Officer to join our Maritime team working on the Hobart Class, reporting to the Engineering Manager and Platform Engineering Manager. This role is required to be performed out of Garden Island, NSW.

The Engineering Change Officer – Mechanical is responsible for providing mechanical engineering services that are accurate, safe, on time, to budget, and to approved standards for the development or modification of mechanical equipment, systems, structures, and/or materials.

The Engineering Change Officer - Mechanical will actively manage and develop the technical team to provide engineering output and technical support for development or modification of equipment, systems, or materials; and will also be responsible for the preparation, integrity, and delivery of mechanical engineering outputs and services to both internal and external customers.

This role will involve strong foundational knowledge/experience in mechanical engineering as this role will have Design Acceptance Representative (DAR) responsibilities. You will also need strong project management skills to coordinate relevant design changes with various stakeholders for approval.

The Capability Lifecycle Manager (CLCM) program works with Defence, the Australian Navy, and Defence Industry partners to deliver project management services sustaining the Royal Australian Navy's Hobart Class Guided Missile Destroyers (DDG) into the future.

This role will see you :

  1. Act as an integrated member of the team and provide technical and project management leadership and oversight within your sub-domain
  2. Develop a thorough understanding of both ship and shore systems within your sub-domain
  3. Design and develop solutions, resolve engineering issues and problems for a range of situations relating to your specialist knowledge area(s)
  4. Develop optimized mechanical system and/or equipment detail designs and present the designs in design reviews
  5. Attend/Conduct project meetings, design reviews, and peer reviews as required
  6. Ensure that all documents and artefacts are completed, reviewed, and managed according to standard procedures and work instructions
  7. Contribute to project controls (schedule and budget development and tracking) and project management of Engineering Change activities within your sub-domain

About YOU

  1. Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical, Mechatronic, or Marine Engineering
  2. Demonstrated experience working as a mechanical engineer with project and people management experience
  3. Experience in design review and oversight activities throughout the engineering process
  4. Effective communication and operation within a dynamic, challenging environment with conflicting priorities and multiple stakeholders
  5. Proactive in managing multiple projects simultaneously
  6. A passion for maritime and developing vessels for defence; naval/maritime experience is highly advantageous
  7. Current NV1 Clearance or eligibility to obtain
  8. Eligibility for International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) clearance
