The Parramatta Medicare Mental Health Centre (MMHC) service model is tailored to the needs of the local community and offers a combination of peer-led recovery and clinical support to provide a warm, welcoming and high-quality experience including: immediate mental health support for people requiring short-term mental health and wellbeing support.

We work with adults with short to moderate level of support needs in a multidisciplinary environment, working alongside Psychiatrists, Psychologists, Social Workers, Counsellors, D&A clinicians, Vocational staff and Peer Workers.

Our Service

The Parramatta MMHC service model provides a range of services to meet the diverse needs of the local community. These include:

  • Immediate Mental Health Support: Short-term mental health and wellbeing support for individuals experiencing acute mental health issues.
  • Peer-Led Recovery: A person-centred approach to mental health care, led by trained peer workers who have experienced mental illness themselves.
  • Clinical Support: Access to a multidisciplinary team of professionals, including Psychiatrists, Psychologists, Social Workers, Counsellors, and D&A clinicians.

Role Overview

This is an exciting opportunity to join our multidisciplinary team as a Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, providing high-quality, person-centred care to individuals accessing our service.

Your Responsibilities

You will be responsible for:

  • Providing Specialist Mental Health Services: Short to medium-term episodes of care to meet the mental health needs of individuals accessing our service.
  • Prescribing Medications: Prescribe medications in accordance with consumer care plans and within scope of practice.
  • Brief Evidence-Based Psychological Interventions: Provision of brief evidence-based psychological interventions (i.e., psychoeducation) and therapeutic management for individuals and groups in consultation with the multidisciplinary team.
  • Support and Advice: Providing support and advice to family members, significant others, healthcare professionals, and support staff as appropriate.

Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need to possess:

  • Registration as a Nurse Practitioner: Registration as a Nurse Practitioner (endorsed Mental Health) with the Health Practitioner Regulation National Law Act 2009, with a current annual practicing certificate from the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency.
  • Master of Nursing (Nurse Practitioner): Master of Nursing (Nurse Practitioner) qualification.
  • Current Prescriber Number & Credentialed Status: Current prescriber number and credentialed status with the Australian College of Mental Health Nurses (ACMHN).
  • Demonstrated Clinical Competence: Demonstrated clinical competence as per national competency standards for Nurse Practitioners and experience as a Mental Health Nurse Practitioner.
  • National Safety and Quality Health Service Standard: Demonstrated knowledge of the National Safety and Quality Health Service Standard.
  • Crisis Care Experience: Demonstrated experience in the provision of crisis care.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Highly developed interpersonal skills, including using reflective practice principles.
