The College of Science and Engineering is seeking a Research Associate in Chemistry to support ARC and AEA funded research led by Professor Justin Chalker. Specifically, the successful incumbent will investigate methods to make sulfur-rich polymers for applications in high-value areas such as optics, energy storage, and recycling.
This is an outstanding opportunity to join a highly collaborative team of researchers working on diverse aspects of chemical synthesis, polymer chemistry, and sustainable chemistry. The successful candidate will benefit from access to state-of-the-art research labs, including newly renovated chemical synthesis labs, and support and guidance from supervisors and mentors.
The Research Associate will also:
- Contribute to ethical, high quality, and innovative research and evaluation through activities such as scholarship, quality publication, external grant acquisition, and presentations.
- Assist principal supervisors with supervision of postgraduate students.
- Support the Project by collaborating with the Project Research Team to successfully deliver project milestones and Key Performance Indicators.
With a strong background in research, your advanced technical and analytical skills will contribute to improving the quality of the research conducted. You will be able to work autonomously as well as in a team, demonstrating initiative to handle multiple projects and prioritise effectively. Your excellent communication skills will help you build and maintain positive relationships with a diverse group of internal and external stakeholders.
As the successful candidate, you will also demonstrate:
- Completion of a PhD in Chemistry or significant progress towards completion of a PhD in Chemistry.
- Demonstrated experience in organic and polymer synthesis, including synthesis of sulfur-rich monomers and polymers.
- Demonstrated experience in synthetic electrochemistry, synthetic photochemistry, and flow chemistry.
