Coolabah Capital Investments is a global fixed-income fund manager with approximately AUD $16bn under management for institutional and retail clients. The Firm focuses on generating alpha from long and short security-specific positions through highly quantitative proprietary models. The team includes 11 traders/portfolio managers and 21 analysts across a total of 53 talented, full-time staff located in our offices in Sydney, Melbourne, London and Miami.

About the role

The role is for a Junior Quant Trader within the Portfolio Management Team, based in Sydney. The successful individual will be highly integrated throughout the business and report to the Deputy Chief Investment Officers. The role is a permanent, full time position, and the successful candidate will be expected to be in the office 5 days a week.

  • Portfolio monitoring, reporting and risk management for fixed income (corporate and sovereign) funds;
  • Execution and booking of trades;
  • Management of forecast cash balances and liquidity across funds;
  • Identification and analysis of investment opportunities;
  • Drive streamlining, automation and efficiency across the business;
  • Contributions to quantitative research to enhance the investment process
  • Further supporting the entire investment team and business.
About the role

We are considering highly motivated and talented candidates with a quantitative background. 1-3 years' experience in finance is ideal, but we would also consider candidates with other levels of experience. The ideal candidate is looking to make a long-term commitment to their next position and possesses the following attributes:

  • Exceptional talent;
  • Track-record of high academic achievement, ideally in a quantitative discipline such as Engineering, Science or Mathematics;
  • Track-record of superior performance and decision making under pressure;
  • Strong quantitative skills and modelling capabilities, with a research-oriented mindset;
  • Exceptional attention to detail;
  • Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team;
  • High-intensity work ethic and willingness to work outside normal hours when required;
  • Knowledge of fixed income markets and concepts is an advantage;
  • Coding experience is an advantage, ideally in Python or R;
  • Good communication skills;
  • High levels of honesty/reliability/dependability;
