BeMoved is building a utility connections product and platform to help consumers connect and switch utility providers. Our multi-channel platform helps consumers save time and money, compare plans, and more. Our mission is to disrupt the status quo with connections businesses in Australia and eventually the world.

We're looking for a talented and passionate Senior Backend Engineer (Python) to join us and help build our awesome product and platform. You love the hustle, the autonomy and the bias for action that working in a small company / startup environment offers.

Reporting to:

  • Tech Lead

Skills required

  • Strong backend development skills in Python (eg: Flask, FastAPI, Django).
  • Experience with relational databases (MySQL/Postgres) and writing performant queries.
  • Experience designing and consuming APIs (REST and/or GraphQL).
  • Hands-on experience with task queues and message brokers (Celery, RabbitMQ, Azure Service Bus, etc.).
  • Proven ability to design scalable, secure, and maintainable distributed systems.
  • Experience with building, deploying and managing infrastructure and services on Azure
  • Familiarity with cloud-native development and containerisation (Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Experience building products from scratch in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong understanding of infrastructure architecture: scaling, networking, monitoring, cost management within Azure.
  • Experience in the energy industry or other regulated industries.
  • Exposure to frontend frameworks (React, Vue, TypeScript) — not critical, but useful for collaboration.
  • Knowledge of observability tools and practices.

Responsibilities

  • Hands-on backend development in Python, building and maintaining scalable APIs and services.
  • Designing and implementing system architecture and integrations with third-party platforms.
  • Leading on Azure infrastructure decisions (services, scaling, cost optimisation).
  • Working closely with frontend engineers to ensure smooth API consumption.
  • Contributing to system design and architecture decisions.
