
Homelessness Engagement Practitioner

As our Homelessness Engagement Practitioner, you will play a critical role in supporting vulnerable families, young people (aged 16 – 24) and individuals at risk of homelessness. You'll assess clients' living circumstances and create case plans to secure more suitable, long-term housing. Your case management will balance early intervention, crisis and post-crisis support depending on client needs. You will also work collaboratively with community partners and facilitate connections between clients and the wider community.

Responsibilities- Provide case management for young people, families and individuals at risk of homelessness
- Advocate for clients within the housing system, including assisting with forms, tenancy support, and navigating complex processes
- Link clients to appropriate services and support to address their broader needs
- Provide education to clients around homelessness prevention, budgeting and related topics
- Negotiate and work closely with housing services, utility companies and landlords
- Provide tailored support to vulnerable clients in need of safe housing, including those experiencing Domestic and Family Violence
- Collaborate with DCJ Housing, community hubs, and partner services
- Maintain accurate client records, case notes, and monthly reporting in line with organisational standards
- Experience managing a caseload autonomously and providing tailored support to clients navigating complex housing or social service systems
- Excellent relationship-building skills and existing networks within the local community
- Strong ability to advocate for clients, particularly women, children, and young people
- Trauma-informed, strengths-based approach to client engagement
- Strong communication and analytical skills, including report writing and verbal advocacy
- Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and maintain professional boundaries while delivering high-quality client support
- Familiarity with CIMS (Client Information Management System) is a bonus
- Relevant qualifications in Community Services, Social Work, or a related field
- Salary packaging up to $15,900 per year
