Where you'll be working

Sydney Hospital and Sydney Eye Hospital are steeped in history, with a legacy of nursing and medical firsts to its credit and have paved the way in many clinical areas. They provide a unique blend of general and specialist medical services, including a 24 hour emergency service, general medicine including a close observation unit, perioperative services and ophthalmic care. The Hospital is in the heart of the Central Business District in Sydney.

What you'll be doing

The Nursing and Midwifery strategy for Transforming Person Centred Cultures (2024-2029) guides the profession in developing effective person-centred practice and healthful cultures within SESLHD. The Sydney Hospital and Sydney Eye Hospital provide general and specialist health care, including 24-hour emergency care, general medicine, perioperative services and hand/eye surgery. The CNC will play a pivotal role in SSEH General Medicine in clinical service, consultancy, clinical leadership, research, education and clinical services planning and management. The CNC provides clinical advice and support to patients, nursing staff and other health professionals across wards and units, and participates in multidisciplinary mortality and morbidity or patient case review meetings.

The CNC coordinates the management of Clinical Emergency Response Systems (CERS), including the management of deteriorating patients. This includes collecting, collating, interpreting and reporting CERS data at local and District levels, undertaking patient case reviews with appropriate clinicians, and coordinating CERS education and training.

The CNC exercises extended clinical knowledge, skills and judgement in acute/chronic general medical care, ensuring best practice, acting as a resource person and participating in patient safety programs including CERS, Sepsis Pathway, Delirium, End of Life, Advance Care Directives and patient/family activated escalation systems for clinical deterioration. You will be part of a team that supports one another, focuses on what matters, and continues to innovate in practice.

Selection Criteria
  • Registered with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) as a Registered Nurse and current NSW Driver's Licence with willingness to travel as required in the role.
  • At least 5 years full-time equivalent post-registration experience, with at least 3 years in the specialty field, plus approved postgraduate nursing/midwifery qualifications relevant to the field (or equivalent) as deemed appropriate by the hospital or health organisation.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply clinical expertise in a consultant role and to work independently.
  • Proven clinical leadership skills and ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary framework with a commitment to nursing excellence.
  • Evidence of critical thinking related to delivery of advanced evidence-based nursing care.
  • Experience in leading and implementing change, and translating evidence-based research into practice within a person-centred framework.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal and written/verbal communication skills, advanced computer skills, and ability to analyse data and produce reports.
  • Ability to contribute to strategic and clinical service planning.
