As an Associate within the Investigation, Disputes and Compliance practice, you will support case managers by conducting in-depth investigative and intelligence due diligence research into companies and individuals. Your role is to provide clients with accurate assessments of the status, legitimacy, background, and market reputation of subject companies and their principals. You will manage case research from start to finish, analyzing records from various sources such as commercial and government databases, social media, litigation filings, and interview notes. Your findings will be synthesized into a clear, coherent report.
Day-to-day responsibilities:
- Conduct exploratory research on businesses, individuals, industries, and events using public and proprietary sources.
- Identify reputational, regulatory, and financial crime risks through detailed analysis.
- Review official public records (e.g., corporate records, court documents, financial statements, sanctions data) and open-source materials online (e.g., social media, news articles, forums, archives).
- Interpret data to identify significant patterns and developments.
- Write structured, objective, and client-focused reports addressing key questions and concerns.
Requirements:
- Strong academic background or equivalent experience demonstrating proficiency in research, problem-solving, and critical thinking.
- 1–3 years of relevant experience in research, investigations, or related fields.
- Based in Sydney with familiarity with the Australian political, business, institutional, and social landscape.
- Passionate about research and analysis, with a proactive approach to complex questions.
- Skilled in using online databases and research tools locally and internationally.
- Excellent writing skills, preferably with a background in Communications, Journalism, Political Science, International Relations, or Law.
- Experience researching in the ANZ–Pacific region is preferred.
- Proficiency in a second language such as Mandarin, Arabic, Japanese, or Indonesian is a plus.
- Strong understanding of financial news media and market terminology.
