Overview

Job Title: Trainee/Junior Transport Planner

Reports to: Transport Supervisor

Hours of work: M - F 8am - 5pm

Responsibilities

To provide support to the Transport Supervisor with daily scheduling and routing of the fleet vehicles for optimised customer deliveries, together with supporting drivers for consistent service. Ensure high standards of transport planning quality and logistics delivery performance are maintained daily. Ensure any reported vehicle defects or driver concerns are quickly resolved for an effective, safe and legally compliant transport operation. Ensure KPI's and transport performance targets are consistently achieved. Provide effective communication with transport office, drivers, warehouse and customer service teams. Provide fast resolution to any transport planning or routing issues raised.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Plan and schedule collection and delivery routes to ensure efficient and timely transportation of goods, whilst working to tight deadlines in a fast-moving environment.
  • Collaborate with drivers, dispatchers, and other team members to determine the most effective routes and resolve any operational issues.
  • Monitor and track deliveries to ensure on-time delivery and update customers or stakeholders as necessary.
  • Conduct regular analysis to optimise routes, reduce transportation costs, and improve overall operational efficiency.
  • Coordinate with warehouse personnel to ensure timely loading and unloading of goods
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation of deliveries, and customer interactions
  • Resolve customer complaints and issues in a professional and timely manner.
  • Participate in regular meetings and provide recommendations for process improvements
  • Liaising with the warehouse operations, customer services and customers to provide excellent service and resolve any transport issues.
  • Monitoring fuel usage, vehicle maintenance, and cost controls.
  • Supporting the Transport Supervisor and Manager in implementing operational improvements.
  • Ensure KPI targets for Safety, Quality, Delivery & Cost are consistently achieved.
  • Excellent standards of organizational skills, planning, communication, personal discipline, quality of work, time management, problem solving, customer service and a positive 'can-do' attitude.

  • Computer literate with excellent MS Office skills.
  • Any previous experience in planning or scheduling would be beneficial, but not essential as full training in the role will be provided.
