Overview

Maintenance Mechanical Fitters – Boyne Smelter. Rio Tinto is hiring for Maintenance Mechanical Fitters onsite at Boyne Smelter and Gladstone Operations. Opportunities are available for both new and experienced tradespeople across multiple maintenance teams.

We are seeking passionate, safety-focused Mechanical Fitters / Fitter & Turners. You will join high-performing maintenance teams and contribute to keeping assets safe, reliable and well-maintained.

Responsibilities
  • Maintaining and replacing mechanical equipment
  • Execution of planned and unplanned breakdown maintenance
  • Troubleshooting, calibration, repair and service of fixed plant assets
  • Working at heights activities
  • Working autonomously, being reliable and positively contributing to the maintenance team
  • Understanding the requirement to maintain assets in a safe and reliable condition
  • Identifying and implementing improvement initiatives across multiple disciplines
  • Promoting and identifying HSE opportunities to improve equipment, processes and behaviours
  • Identifying defects and supporting defect elimination processes
What You'll Bring
  • Commitment to safety of yourself and your team
  • Respect for others and an all-inclusive mindset
  • Valid C Class driver's licence
  • Australian A‑grade Electrical licence
  • Instrumentation Certificate advantageous
  • Working at Heights/EWP desirable
  • Experience in planned maintenance including conveyors, PLC, instrumentation and other plant equipment
  • Proven fault-finding and repair skills on various electrical equipment
  • Maintenance experience in heavy/industrial environments

Where You'll Be Working

Boyne Smelter is Australia's second largest aluminium smelter, located about 20 km southeast of Gladstone at Boyne Island. The site employs around 1,000 people and produces around 500,000 tonnes of aluminium per year. Operations include carbon anode production, reduction lines aluminium production, and casting of molten aluminium, with a conveyor-connected relationship to Queensland Alumina Limited.
