An exciting opportunity exists for a Nurse Unit Manager in the Intensive Care Unit of Newcastle Private Hospital. As the Nurse Unit Manager- ICU, you will provide leadership through strategic initiatives and day-to-day operational requirements.

Join our team of surgeons, specialist doctors, nurses, and allied health professionals at Newcastle Private Hospital. We are a 189-bed, acute private hospital co-located on the John Hunter Campus at Rankin Park. The hospital has 11 theatres, including a hybrid theatre, and a 15-bed Intensive Care Unit.

We also have a cardiac suite with a cardiac catheter laboratory and a 16-bed Coronary Care Unit. A private maternity suite with 6 birthing suites and a special care baby nursery is available for families in the Newcastle region. Newcastle Private Oncology Centre offers specialized cancer care with inpatient and outpatient services.

As the ICU Manager, you will:

• Ensure the nursing care model is relationship-centered, with optimal patient safety and outcomes
• Coordinate patient services, including admissions, discharges, and liaising with interdisciplinary teams
• Provide clinical support and guidance as needed
• Understand legislative requirements and national standards
• Identify opportunities for program development and service enhancement
• Promote teamwork within the service and across departments
• Collaborate closely with ICU specialists, physicians, surgeons, and anesthetists to ensure high-quality care and develop strong working relationships
• Develop talent within the team and possess skills in leadership, communication, and organizational planning

What you'll need to succeed

• Current AHPRA registration as a Registered Nurse
• Postgraduate qualification in intensive or critical care nursing
• Advanced clinical competence
• Recent experience in a clinical leadership role
• Proven ability to lead high-performing teams with a service excellence focus
• Passion for building strong relationships and delivering exceptional patient experiences
• Skills in workforce planning, rostering, and budgeting
• Strong planning and organizational skills
• Excellent influencing, negotiation, and communication skills
• High computer literacy
• Postgraduate qualification in leadership or health management (or working towards)
