Location: Chester Hill North Public School

School psychologists provide counselling and psychological assessment of students to complement and enhance learning and wellbeing outcomes, and help families understand and manage their children's learning and mental health needs. This is a collegiate role with opportunities for professional development and meaningful impact on children and young people.

The successful candidate will be based at Chester Hill North Public School with opportunities to work across primary and high school ages. You will collaborate with school communities and outside agencies within a multidisciplinary team and receive supervision within the NSW Department of Education structure.

Remuneration and Benefits

Total Remuneration Package: up to $177,146 + incentives (where applicable). Base salary ranges from $98,177 - $156,294 plus leave loading and employer's contribution to superannuation. Base salary rates above the minimum are available dependent on professional experience. Note: there is no automatic progression to the $156,294 SPAC salary level.

Additional benefits include various leave types, leave loading, travel allowances, health and wellbeing benefits such as the Fitness Passport program, and indemnity insurance for psychologists while working in schools.

Key Responsibilities (Key Accountabilities)
  • Provides counselling and psychological services to students, individually and in groups, including appropriate short-term therapeutic interventions within training, experience and supervision constraints.
  • Engages with and implements the Professional Practice Framework for the NSW School Counselling Service.
  • Works with the principal, school executive, staff and student support services to improve student learning and wellbeing outcomes and implement departmental priorities.
  • Contributes to social, emotional and academic development of students; supports students with complex behavioural needs.
  • Administers cognitive, social, emotional and behavioural assessments; reports results and collaborates to improve learning, wellbeing and mental health outcomes.
  • Works with learning and support teams, parents, carers and other agencies to develop school-based support for students.
  • Responds as part of a team to assist schools experiencing serious incidents.
  • Refers students and/or families to other agencies for support of health and wellbeing outcomes.
Essential Requirements
  • Knowledge of and commitment to implementing the Department's Aboriginal Education Policy and the NSW AECG Partnership Agreement to ensure quality outcomes for Aboriginal people.
  • General or Provisional Psychology Registration with the Psychology Board of Australia.
  • Valid and current Working with Children Check clearance.
  • Current and valid driver's licence and ability and willingness to travel between work sites.
  • Australian citizenship or permanent residency.
