About us
The Queensland Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Child Protection Peak (QATSICPP) is the peak body representing, advocating, and supporting Queensland's Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander child protection and family support sector.
By sharing our collective knowledge and experience, we can all make a positive impact on policies and practices to stop the overrepresentation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children in Queensland's child protection and youth justice systems.
About the role
QATSICPP and the Thriving Queensland Kids Partnership (TQKP) have partnered to lead systemic reform that will ensure all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and young people in Queensland get the best start in life.
To achieve this, QATSICPP has committed to lead the development of a Thriving Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children's Strategy that will influence and drive transformative system changes that focus on prevention and early intervention for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children from conception to five years old (first 2000 days). This role will focus on developing and implementing this strategy through:
- Bringing people, organisations, and sectors together to drive the systems change.
- Collect, analyse and present data on the implementation of strategic prevention and early intervention reforms across Queensland and other jurisdictions.
- With the support of the Manager, produce discussion papers to bring together ideas, identify barriers and solutions that engage multiple stakeholders and build coalitions of support.
- Supporting collaborative action, innovation, and continuous improvement at systems levels.
- The work of this role will support achieving the commitments made under multiple state and national frameworks including the Our Way Strategy, Close the Gap and Safe and Supported the National Child Protection Successor Plan.
The role will support the Thriving Queensland Kids Partnership (TQKP) to be inclusive of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander voices and expertise, and to facilitate collaboration between QATSICPP and the Australian Research Alliance for Children and Youth Ltd (ARACY) and other stakeholders.
Typical Duties and responsibilities:
- Engage, build, and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders including Thriving Queensland Kids Partnership, QATSICPP staff, QATSICPP member organisations, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Elders, leaders, non-Indigenous organisations and communities, research institutes and government agencies.
- Provide high level consultation and negotiation with internal and external stakeholders to establish coalitions of support across sectors.
- Support the development of strategies that address system level change.
- Develop position papers, strategic documents and briefing documents that support design, development and implementation.
- Provide advice regarding emerging issues, strategic opportunities, and challenges in relation to the project.
- Other tasks as directed by QATSICPP Manager, Executive Director and/or CEO.
Desired skills, experience, and capabilities:
- Knowledge, awareness, and connection to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
- Significant experience working on prevention and early intervention programs particularly with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and families.
- Experience in community engagement, stakeholder engagement and partnerships.
- Experience in project and program implementation and delivery.
- Understanding of evidence-based research related to child, youth, family and/or community wellbeing from an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander lens.
- Well-developed verbal and written communication and presentation skills as well as the ability to confidently communicate with people at all levels in a culturally appropriate manner.
- Innovative and effective work practices and a strive for continuous improvement.
- Mandatory requirements:
- To perform this role, it is essential that the person is an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person. It is therefore a genuine occupational requirement under section 25 of the Antidiscrimination Act 1991 (QLD).
- Relevant degree and/or equivalent in related content is highly desirable.
- A current valid Queensland Working with Children's Card (Blue Card) or eligibility to apply.
- Valid Driver's License.
Our vision is a future where all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and young people are physically, emotionally, and spiritually strong, live in a safe, caring and nurturing environment within their own families and communities, and are afforded the same life opportunities available to other children and young people to fully realise their potential.
