  Who are we looking for?
  
  We are seeking a Laboratory Assistant (2 positions available) to join Faculty Operations, Faculty of Science.
  
  The Laboratory Assistant role delivers essential support to staff within the Chemistry and Physical Sciences Technical Services team to achieve effective, safe, and sustainable operations in a range of laboratory facilities. The key responsibilities include:
  • Provide general assistance in alignment with policies and procedures to enable efficient support of teaching, research, and engagement activities.
  • Assist with purchasing, repairs and maintenance, logistics, preparations, clean-up and disposal, resourcing, and data collections.
  • Identifying resource and facility developments to support continuous improvement.
  • Contribution to the development of a collaborative service culture.
  • Engage in opportunities for professional development to ensure knowledge and skills are aligned with contemporary industry practice.
  • Compliance with health and safety policies, procedures, hazard reporting and safe work practices

  • Technical Services & Space Management The Technical Services & Space unit comprises of:
  • Environmental, Geological and Biological Sciences technical support team
  • Chemistry and Physical Sciences technical support team
  • Space, Assets, Logistics and Technology support team Faculty Operations is led by the Director of Operations and is supported by the Senior Management Accountant and the Technical Services & Space Manager..
    
    
  What You Need To Succeed
  • Completion of an associate diploma, with subsequent relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training, in a scientific chemistry laboratory or industry research environment.
  • Proven ability to prioritise tasks and work collaboratively to achieve team-based outcomes in a changing environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide quality client service.
  • Proven ability to analyse, adapt and problem solve.
  • Demonstrated ability to connect and collaborate with a range of diverse groups, and work effectively within a team in a demanding and high paced environment.
  • Proven ability in the use of correct manual handling techniques and/or physical aids, and maintain and support an effective health and safety culture.
  • Hold a current C-class driver licence.
