Queanbeyan, New South Wales, Australia Samsara Eco Full time
Overview

Be the catalyst that drives real change for our planet.

Samsara Eco has one clear mission: to repair our planet through infinite plastic recycling. Yes, it's a mighty mission but it's something every single one of us here at Samsara Eco is determined to achieve. And it's what motivates us to dedicate our time and energy to every single day.

Our technology is like our team. One of a kind. And we know that, so while we are creating technology to repair our planet, we're also building a great place to grow careers. A place where everyone can do the best work of their life, making meaningful impact on our planet and ourselves.

Who we are...

We're a climate tech innovator repairing our planet through infinite recycling. We're taking the 10 billion tonnes of plastics and textiles wasting away in landfill and our environment, and recycling it, infinitely to create a truly circular loop for packaging, clothing, airbags and everything in between.

It means brands can make the products we all know and love without the environmental damage. Because by using what we already have, we can end the world's reliance on dirty fossil fuels to slow climate change and ensure we have a liveable planet for future generations.

Role Purpose

We are seeking a Project Engineer to support the delivery of key capital projects across Samsara's operations. In this role, you will act as the technical bridge between project managers, the internal design and process engineering teams, and external vendors and contractors.

You will be responsible for ensuring that mechanical scopes are accurately interpreted, procured, and delivered to specification, on time and within budget. This includes managing vendor interfaces, supporting equipment procurement and expediting, resolving technical queries, and contributing to safe, constructible, and operable plant designs.

This is a hands-on role, ideal for someone with strong engineering fundamentals, project delivery experience, and the ability to navigate between engineering detail and practical execution.

This role is based in Jerrabomberra on the border of NSW/ACT approx. 30 mins from Canberra CBD

12 Month Fixed Term Contract

Responsibilities
  • Project Engineering & Delivery: Support project managers in delivering work packages across multiple concurrent capital projects.
  • Interpret design documentation and translate into procurement-ready scope definitions and supplier requirements.
  • Coordinate mechanical systems design with process, electrical, controls, and civil teams to ensure integration and constructability.
  • Track and report progress of scopes during design, procurement, fabrication, and installation.
  • Familiarity with project controls, scheduling tools (e.g., MS Project, Smartsheet or similar).
  • Experience with stage-gate project delivery frameworks or FEED/EPC execution.
  • Understanding of cost control and forecasting.
    • Vendor & Contractor Interface: Serve as the main technical point of contact between Samsara's engineering team and equipment vendors and contractors.
    • Review vendor drawings and data to ensure compliance with design requirements and project specifications.
    • Coordinate and expedite submittals, approvals, and delivery schedules to meet project milestones.
    • Support factory acceptance testing (FAT), pre-shipment inspections, and resolution of non-conformances.
    • Ability to integrate multidisciplinary engineering inputs into cohesive project solutions.
      • Procurement & Expediting: Work closely with procurement and supply chain teams to prepare RFQs, evaluate bids, and select vendors.
      • Drive the expediting of long-lead equipment and materials, ensuring early issue resolution and alignment with project timelines.
      • Maintain accurate tracking of key procurement deliverables and logistics plans.
      • Experience working with international suppliers (China, Europe, US)
      • Ability to negotiate technical and commercial terms.
        • Engineering & Technical Support: Provide technical input into equipment selection, material compatibility, layout planning, and mechanical integration.
        • Contribute to the design and review of piping systems, pressure vessels, heat exchangers, rotating equipment, and utility services.
        • Conduct constructability reviews and support commissioning and start-up activities.
        • Ensure all mechanical designs comply with relevant Australian standards (e.g., AS1210, ASME, AS4041), safety codes, and environmental requirements.
        • Provide site engineering support during installation, commissioning, and handover to operations.
        Skills and Competencies
        • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
        • Chartered Engineer (CPEng) or working toward professional recognition.
        • Experience in mechanical or project engineering roles, preferably within the chemical, manufacturing, or process industries.
        • Demonstrated experience managing mechanical scopes in capital project environments.
        • Strong technical knowledge of mechanical systems, including pressure equipment, piping design, pumps, tanks, and utilities.
        • Ability to interpret and critique engineering drawings, P&IDs, datasheets, and vendor documents.
        • Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate across design, project, procurement, and operations teams.
        • Hands-on experience coordinating with fabricators, contractors, and OEM vendors.
        • Proficiency in CAD tools and familiarity with project tracking systems and engineering workflows.
        • Knowledge of regulatory requirements and standards relevant to mechanical and process equipment.
        • Exposure to process safety management or HAZOP participation
