About The RoleThe General Manager – Planning & Environment is responsible for managing the CEC's planning and environment portfolio, including the portfolio for industry safety, operations and maintenance. You will lead your team in communicating and influencing relevant legislative, regulatory and policy frameworks, advocate strongly on behalf of our large-scale membership base and work collaboratively with key stakeholders to strengthen Australia's planning and environment frameworks.
About YouWe're looking for someone who has:
- Relevant tertiary qualification or equivalent experience in planning, policy, energy, law, or sustainability.
- 5–7 years in policy/regulatory development, preferably in renewable energy or similar sectors.
- Strong written and verbal communication; able to simplify technical info for diverse stakeholders.
- Deep understanding of government policy processes and regulatory frameworks.
- Knowledge of planning/environmental issues in renewable energy, and Australian energy/climate policy.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organisational skills.
- Experience in stakeholder engagement, government policy advising, and statutory planning (desirable).
- Public speaking and facilitation experience (roundtables, panels, workshops).
- Media experience (desired).
- Strong leadership and team-building ability.
- Capable of managing multiple priorities under tight deadlines.
- Flexible with working hours and able to travel as required.
- Comfortable working in fast-paced environments.
