Run entirely on voluntary donations, we work to improve the lives of every child, no matter who they are or where they live. Every day our teams are delivering lifesaving aid and creating lasting change in some of the toughest places on earth to be a child. UNICEF works with local partners to raise children's voices, defend their rights, and help them reach their potential at all stages of life.

UNICEF Australia's Media and Public Affairs team is offering a full time, 12 month fixed term contract position, to help shape stories that inspire action for children worldwide.

UNICEF Australia has a flexible work environment, built around the diversity of our team and their needs. A competitive salary commensurate with the not for profit sector is offered together with a broad range of wellbeing benefits.

  • Monitoring, compiling and analysing media coverage and reports.
  • Packaging and distributing media materials to ensure journalists are well supported.
  • Working with internal teams, external partners, and international colleagues to maximise media opportunities and share Australian perspectives.
  • Coordinating logistics for media field visits and other events.

We would like you to have the following skills and experience

  • Tertiary qualifications in Communications, Journalism or adequate professional experience.
  • Previous experience in a metropolitan newspaper, television, or radio news service; or at least five years in communications;
  • Knowledge of the Australian broadcast and digital news and media landscape with contacts across a range of publishers and outlets
  • Understanding of, or interest in, international development issues, world affairs, current events
  • Advanced writing, editing and verbal communication skills with the ability to write for multiple platforms and audiences
  • Willingness to work outside normal office hours to respond to requests from national media and international colleagues where needed
  • A commitment to the work and values of UNICEF Australia.
  • A passionate and energetic team member with a genuine interest in working in the international aid and development sector

What will it feel like to work at UNICEF Australia

  • An environment and culture built on the importance of teamwork, collaboration and shared purpose
  • Sector leading salary packaging and a competitive salary commensurate with the NFP sector
  • A flexible work environment with balance between home and office work, which puts the wellbeing of our staff at the centre of our decision making
  • A positive and values-driven work culture which celebrates our achievements and recognises our teams
