The Opportunity
We're looking for aproactive and innovative Fraud Investigatorto join our Payment Integrity team at Medibank. This is a unique opportunity to drive meaningful change by identifying fraud risks, investigating suspected cases, and designing containment and mitigation strategies that protect our customers and our business.
As a Fraud Investigator, you'll play a key role in identifying and assessing suspected fraudulent behaviour across policy and claims. You'll work autonomously to lead investigations, provide actionable insights, and collaborate with stakeholders to implement strategies that reduce risk and improve operational resilience.
You'll be part of a team that values flexibility, wellbeing, and continuous improvement. We're currently trialling a 4-day work week, giving you more time to focus on personal health and development.
What You'll Be Doing
- Choosing where you work best (home or office) with no mandated in-office days (though we do come together for team meetings and offsites).
- Using data-driven and intelligence-led approaches to detect irregular internal and external claiming and policy activity.
- Conducting thorough, fair, and unbiased investigations within set timeframes, adhering to principles of natural justice.
- Gathering and analysing evidence to support assessments and outcomes.
- Managing judicial processes, including referrals to relevant authorities under Medibank's relevant Policies and Procedures.
- Collaborating with stakeholders to share insights and drive continuous improvement.
- Designing and recommending mitigation strategies to prevent future fraud and reduce business risk.
What We Need From You
- A genuine passion for fraud prevention and financial crime.
- Proven experience in fraud investigation, ideally within health, insurance, banking, or government sectors.
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail - you're confident working with data and spotting unique patterns.
- Proficiency in Excel; experience with SAS or similar analytics tools is a plus.
- Ability to manage multiple complex cases independently and drive outcomes with minimal supervision.
- A strategic mindset - you're not just solving problems, you're preventing them.
