Nunawading Christian College is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic National School Chaplaincy Wellbeing Officer (Secondary) to join the team. This role is Part-Time, Fixed term (0.2 FTE) position commencing as soon as possible. The fixed term is for a period of 2 years.
The National School Chaplaincy Wellbeing Officer position works to assist the school community by providing pastoral care and general social and emotional comfort to all students, irrespective of their faith or beliefs. This can include support and guidance about ethics, values, relationships, and emotional issues; the provision of student welfare; and enhancing engagement with the broader community.
Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities- Provide a safe place for vulnerable students, and offer wellbeing support for all students.
- To raise an awareness of what makes students resilient and develop strategies to reduce vulnerabilities and to increase coping skills.
- Build on our expectations of the school values: Respect, Responsibility, Resilience and Integrity.
- Support teachers with student wellbeing and learning and work in consultation with the school's Head of School, Principal, Student Wellbeing Team and PB4L (Positive Behaviour for Learning) Team.
- Collaborate with teaching staff and Student Wellbeing Team in delivering programs or counselling that educates students about a range of issues including managing anxiety, friendship skills, personal safety, risk taking and protective measures around emotional issues.
- Work closely with Learning support team to support intervention strategies.
- Adhere to the National Schools Chaplaincy and Student Welfare Program (NSCSWP) guidelines.
- Undertake annual training on Child Safety including Mandatory Reporting training.
- Report any concerns over child safety to the Child Safety Officer and Principal and ensure all legal requirements for reporting to authorities are complied with.
- Ongoing adherence to child safety and understanding and practise of appropriate behaviour.
- Commitment to working with children and actively supporting a child-safe culture.
- Relevant qualifications in social work, youth work, educational psychology, education, or a similar field (recently completed or near completion).
- Awareness of common approaches, policies, and programs relating to student wellbeing, with a willingness to continue developing knowledge through professional learning.
- Placement, volunteer, or limited professional experience in student or family wellbeing services, ideally including exposure to school or youth settings.
- Capacity to assist in coordinating support services and providing information, guidance, and consultation under supervision.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships, collaborate in a team environment, and engage with a wide range of people in the school and wider community.
- Must hold and maintain a valid Working With Children Check.
