What You'll Be DoingThe Aboriginal Mental Health Clinician provides recovery-focused, person-centred and culturally competent services including assessment, care coordination, intervention, liaison, advocacy and review as part of the multidisciplinary team for both Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal people referred to the service with mental illness, distress and/or risk issues.
Notes: This is an identified position in accordance with Section 14 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977. Aboriginal applicants must demonstrate Aboriginality in addition to addressing the selection criteria.
Selection Criteria- Must be of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent and have demonstrated knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures with established links with the local Aboriginal community.
- Tertiary qualification Bachelor Health Science (Mental Health), or qualifications and current registration with AHPRA for Registered Nurses, Occupational Therapists, Psychologists, or eligibility for membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers for Social Workers.
- Demonstrated ability to provide high quality, safe and connected care to consumers and their families in a person-centred, holistic manner that promotes self-determination within the principles of mental health rehabilitation, recovery framework and strengths-based approach.
- Demonstrated high level communication skills to engage and collaborate with consumers, families, carers and other stakeholders.
- High level computer skills including accuracy and knowledge of Electronic Medical Records and Microsoft Office programs.
- Knowledge of Mental Health & Alcohol and Other Drugs strategic directions, including those related to Aboriginal people and their communities.
- Knowledge of legislation and policies relating to Mental Health care provision, including the Mental Health Act 2007.
- Current unrestricted drivers licence and ability to drive/travel as required, including potential long distances and overnight stays.
