Queensland has the highest remand rates in Australia and 54 reasons' Bail Support program is focused on turning this statistic around. We need you to work closely with young people involved with the youth justice system to take the steps to become the best they can be, through practical support, case management and advocacy.
54 reasons is Australia's leading child rights organisation – no ordinary not-for-profit.
Proudly part of the Save the Children Australia Group and global movement, we're here to make sure that children and young people have their rights met and thrive, in all their diversity.
With the child's voice at the centre, we provide quality services to children and their caregivers in every state and territory, and across regions, remote areas and capital cities. From our programs to our support services - this is the place to realise your purpose.
A place to make a difference:
In these casual roles, you'll work to support young people to meet their bail conditions and to re-engage in the community, with the ultimate aim of building their capacity, reducing their risk of entering custodial settings and diverting them from the justice system.
Note: This casual role will involve after hours and weekend shifts as required.
Reporting to the Team Leader, the Youth Worker support will include, but is not limited to:
- Transportation
- Supporting case management
- Making referrals
- Facilitating pro-social activities
- Safety planning
You will make an impact by:
- Supporting young people to recover from trauma and access whatever resources and support they need to realise their goals
- Building meaningful, respectful connections with families and young people from diverse cultural and socio-economic backgrounds
- Making use of local community services and accessing referral pathways
- Maintain contact with courts and Youth Justice to ensure that requirements are being met
Does this sound like you?
You're passionate about working alongside young people, and you enjoy working with families and young people from different walks of life, with complex and challenging needs. You understand the issues facing young people and have creative, innovative ideas to provide support. This coupled with your dynamic personality and communication skills enable you to build connections to support young people to lead a bright future.
This role requires:
- Experience providing support within case management frameworks
- Understanding of the youth justice system
- Strong time management, organisational and record keeping skills
- Knowledge of the issues facing young people in the community, including alcohol and other substances, mental health concerns and risks, disengagement from/with education and training opportunities, disruption in family relationships, and displacement and disconnection with their community
A place to belong:
At 54 reasons, we invest in the development and wellbeing of our people. Our workforce is approximately 600 people strong, and proudly diverse, whether in race, ethnicity, gender, age, disability, sexuality, cultures and beliefs.
It takes all types of people to do the challenging work we do. We are diverse personalities, backgrounds and talents, embracing our differences as one strong and united team. - Individual learning plans to help map and deliver on your career development
