Catholic Schools NSW (CSNSW) represents NSW Catholic schools and their owners to the media, government, and other education sector stakeholders. Catholic Schools in NSW educate approximately one in five NSW students.
CSNSW has the following appointments from the Australian and NSW governments:
- Approved system authority for funding for the NSW Catholic schools system;
- Non-government representative body for NSW Catholic schools;
- Catholic Block Grant Authority in New South Wales.
Under its Constitution, CSNSW acts as the overarching entity for the purposes of advancing education and religion in Catholic schools in NSW and ensures that Catholic schools meet their compliance requirements and can measure their activities to maximize education and faith outcomes. The company's constitution is backed by canonical mandates from each of the 11 diocesan bishops in NSW, who are also members of the Company.
Employees of CSNSW advise the Government and Catholic School Authorities on educational policy and compliance issues impacting NSW schooling.
This is a full-time position based at the CSNSW office in Sydney's CBD, with the willingness to work on-site.
Primary Purpose of the RoleThe Senior Manager of Curriculum and Assessment demonstrates expertise in curriculum and assessment design, pedagogy, and innovative schooling approaches. This role collaborates across dioceses and schools operated by Religious Institutes and Ministerial Public Juridic Persons (RI/MPJP) in NSW. It is part of the Curriculum and Assessment team within the Deputy Chief Executive Officer (DCEO) Directorate, working with all NSW Catholic school agencies.
Key Responsibilities- Provide advice based on national and international research to inform best practices in teaching, learning, and Catholic mission.
- Facilitate engagement with NESA, ACARA, and Catholic School Agencies regarding curriculum, assessment, and pedagogy, collaborating with CSNSW senior managers.
- Develop responses to NESA and Catholic Agencies on curriculum, assessment, and pedagogy issues.
- Support system delivery through committee participation, reference groups, and forums.
- Develop briefing papers and communications for the CSNSW Board, Catholic School Agencies, NESA, and ACARA on policies and regulatory changes affecting curriculum and assessment from K-12.
- Prepare and deliver professional learning resources and materials supporting curriculum, assessment, and pedagogy.
Support assessments such as NAPLAN, NAP Assessment (mandated and opt-in), and other assessments including:
- Triennial assessments in Science Literacy, ICT, Civics and Citizenship (Mandatory)
- International assessments like PISA, TIMSS, PIRLS (Mandatory)
- NSW Government's VALID Science Assessments for Years 6, 8, and 10 (Opt-in)
- Phonics Screening Check (Opt-in)
- Phonemic awareness assessments (Opt-in)
- Check-in assessments (Opt-in)
- NSW DoE Transition to Year 7 assessment (Opt-in)
Ensure engagement of NSW Catholic schools via committees and forums, maintain compliance with data storage, negotiate data access, and develop policy advice on assessment programs. Liaise with government departments, Catholic authorities, CEnet, NCEC, NESA, NSW DoE, and ACARA. Maintain communication networks and perform other duties as assigned by senior leadership.
Ensure compliance with Working With Children Checks and Criminal History Record Checks, and support the mission and ethos of Catholic schools.
Qualifications and Skills- Leadership experience or current role in schools or system offices.
- Knowledge of NSW syllabuses and curriculum policies.
- Expertise in curriculum and assessment design.
- Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Experience managing projects and policies, maintaining confidentiality, and handling sensitive information.
