Aboriginal Health Worker – Transition to Practice – Lightning Ridge Multi Purpose Service, Lightning Ridge, NSW. Employment Type: Permanent Full Time. Location: Lightning Ridge, NSW. Hours Per Week: 38. Remuneration: $62,512.00 – $90,357.00 per annum (+ superannuation + salary packaging options). Applications Close: 08 October 2025 – 11:59pm.

We are seeking applications from experienced and highly motivated Aboriginal Health Workers – Transition to Practice to join our skilled and supportive team. This role works as a key member of the multi-disciplinary team to provide flexible, holistic and culturally sensitive primary health care services, including direct clinical care, to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples and communities to achieve better health access and outcomes while working towards registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) as an Aboriginal Health Practitioner.

The Aboriginal Health Unit at Lightning Ridge MPS provides a crucial link between the Multi Purpose Service and the community. They are essential in establishing and building relationships between Aboriginal patients and care clinicians to achieve best patient outcomes. They deliver culturally appropriate and clinically competent health care and health education to patients, and assist in providing education to staff across the Health Service to ensure culturally appropriate service delivery.

Requirements and learning pathway

You will be supported to work towards obtaining a Certificate IV in Aboriginal Primary Health Care (Practice) within 2.5 years of commencement, complete clinical placements and work towards AHPRA standards to meet registration as an Aboriginal Health Practitioner. Orientation to the role and ongoing support for learning, growth and development are provided. Travel and accommodation assistance is available to attend TAFE blocks.

• The successful applicant will be appointed temporarily for a period of 2 years in the Aboriginal Health Worker Transition to Practice position and, upon meeting the qualification requirements of an AHPRA registered Aboriginal Health Practitioner, will be transitioned to the permanent level. If the requirements are not met by the end of the 2-year temporary appointment, progress will be reviewed under a performance improvement framework and the person will cease to be employed under the transition program.
