Our Energy Minerals Division provides high-quality, independent coal analysis and services to Australian and international coal companies. We have NATA-accredited (ISO/IEC 17025) coal laboratories servicing all major coal ports in Australia and are involved in the superintending of coal exports overseas, quality control at mine sites and power plants, and borecore evaluation. Our technical services include mechanical sampling design and commissioning for bulk particulate materials.
Job DescriptionKickstart your laboratory career with our casual Coal Technician opportunities. In this role, you'll play a key part in the accurate and timely preparation and analysis of coal and related samples, working to recognised international standards.
Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Accurately collecting coal samples from various mechanical sampling systems and within a CHPP environment, adhering to strict deadlines
- Receipting, recording, analysing, reporting, sorting, and storing coal samples accurately
- Operating analytical and manual preparation equipment
- Planning shift workflows and coordinating sample pick-ups and analysis
- Performing general repairs and maintenance of analytical and preparation equipment
- Fault-finding and diagnostics of equipment as required
- Ensuring compliance with analytical methods, procedures, and SGS Quality Systems
To succeed in this role, you will ideally have:
- Experience in coal sampling, preparation, and testing (preferred but not essential)
- Good computer skills, including Excel (CCLAS experience advantageous but not essential)
- Previous experience in a mineral laboratory environment (preferred)
- The ability to work independently and as part of a team
- A proven ability to meet tight deadlines in a high-pressure environment
- Current Standard 11 (preferred but not essential)
- The ability to successfully complete a pre-employment medical
