The Museum of Contemporary Art Australia (MCA) is Australia's only public museum dedicated to contemporary art. The MCA presents, collects, and engages with the work of living artists in Australia and internationally. Guided by the principles of belonging, connection, and influence, we aim to be the defining platform for contemporary art and ideas in Australia and beyond.
Located on Sydney Harbour at Tallawoladah, a site rich in stories, art, and culture for over 65,000 years, the MCA contributes to the continuity of culture on this site. We connect the broadest public to contemporary art through our Collection, exhibitions, events, creative learning, and access programs. Our evolving Collection of over 4,700 artworks is the only public collection in Australia dedicated to the work of living artists, with over a third represented by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists. As an independent, not-for-profit organization, the MCA raises over 85% of its revenue annually through donations and commercial activities to support our artistic and engagement programs.
Overview of the positionThis position offers an excellent career opportunity to play a pivotal role in the success of the MCA's Public Programs. The successful candidate will join a team responsible for delivering a range of ambitious, diverse, high-quality programs and events that deepen engagement and inspire connection with contemporary art and ideas.
The ideal candidate will have a solid understanding of contemporary public programming within a museum setting and a proven track record of delivering outstanding public programs that engage broad audiences. They will confidently lead programming processes from development to implementation, in consultation with MCA colleagues, and work effectively with artists, partner organizations, and specialists from other fields. Knowledge of contemporary art and its relevance to current society is essential. The candidate should also possess in-depth knowledge of the Sydney arts scene and be willing to expand networks to align programming with MCA's strategic goals.
