The Northern Land Council (NLC) is seeking an experienced Compliance and Risk professional to strengthen corporate governance and embed best-practice compliance across the organisation. This is a unique opportunity to influence positive organisational culture, improve risk management systems, and ensure compliance with legislative and governance obligations while supporting the rights and interests of Traditional Owners across the Top End.
SalarySalary Package: $135,500 (Including District Allowance and Super)
About the RoleReporting to the Governance Compliance and Risk Manager this position is responsible for the effective monitoring, reporting, and continuous improvement of compliance and risk outcomes across the NLC. You will lead the implementation of the NLC's Enterprise Risk Management Framework and Compliance Management Framework, ensuring alignment with legislative obligations, corporate planning, and reporting requirements. The role also oversees internal audit workplans, complaints management, gifts and benefits registers, and compliance health checks, while developing strategies to address non-compliance and high-risk matters. This position works collaboratively across the organisation, providing advice, training, and coaching to managers and staff. It is central to embedding a culture of governance excellence and accountability in support of the NLC's strategic objectives.
What you will BringYou're a confident and strategic governance professional with the skills to lead compliance, manage risks, and influence organisational outcomes. You are solutions-focused, culturally aware, and committed to fostering strong governance frameworks that build trust and accountability.
Qualifications- Bachelor degree in Commerce, Law, Business, Risk Management, Governance or related discipline.
- Minimum of five (5) years' relevant experience in governance, compliance, risk, fraud or complaints management.
- Minimum of five (5) year leadership experience.
- Demonstrated ability to interpret legislation and policies in complex compliance roles.
- Strong judgement and decision-making skills, with experience working in politically sensitive environments.

We offer- 15% superannuation and salary sacrificing up to $15,900 + meal entertainment and holiday accommodation benefits up to $2,650 per year.
- Other benefits under our Enterprise Agreement include:
- District allowance of up to $4,797 per annum for individuals with dependents and $2,630 without dependents.
- Generous leave provisions: 5 weeks annual leave, leave loading, 18 days personal leave;
- Paid Christmas close down;
- Upon completion of 12 months of service an annual airfare with a net (in hand) value of $3,177.
