We are partnering with a privately held, well-established ANZ service and distribution business to appoint a Chief Sales Officer (CSO) to lead its national commercial strategy and execution. This is a rare opportunity for a commercially minded and operationally hands-on executive to drive growth, capability uplift, and customer excellence across a large and well-tenured sales function.

As a key member of the executive leadership team, reporting directly to the CEO, you will take ownership of the business's entire sales and customer portfolio across Australia and New Zealand. The business is in the midst of a multi-year transformation journey and requires a proven leader who can bring structure, discipline, and commercial energy to an evolving and strategically important function.

About the Role

The CSO will lead a geographically dispersed team comprising regional sales managers, national accounts, inside sales, commercial development and field-based BDMs. The immediate priority is to harmonise and mature the sales structure across ANZ while introducing robust operating rhythms, clear go-to-market strategies, and a customer-led mindset.

You will be responsible for delivering strong growth in both metro and regional markets, enhancing team capability, driving margin and portfolio performance, and embedding data-led decision making. The CSO will play a central role in strengthening board visibility, aligning cross-functional priorities, and building a future-fit commercial structure.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and lead an ANZ-wide sales strategy that supports long-term revenue and margin growth
  • Build and coach a high-performing national leadership team across all sales channels
  • Embed a clear commercial cadence, with a focus on CRM adoption, performance tracking, pricing governance, and pipeline conversion
  • Drive transformation from product-led selling to a diversified brand and service-led proposition
  • Support customer segmentation and channel strategy, particularly in under-serviced regions and specialist customer groups
  • Lead strategic partnerships, new business development and national account expansion
  • Own the end-to-end customer journey in collaboration with marketing, operations and customer support
  • Represent the commercial function at board meetings and play a visible role in group-wide strategic planning

What You Bring

  • 15+ years of sales and commercial leadership experience across complex, national organisations
  • Proven success in leading transformation in a sales function, including organisational redesign, cultural uplift and team development
  • Strong commercial acumen, including pricing strategy, margin management and customer engagement across both metro and regional markets
  • Experience influencing boards and executive teams, with a clear track record of executive presence and stakeholder impact
  • Deep understanding of multi-brand, service-based environments, with a preference for candidates from wholesale distribution, field-based service or decentralised retail networks
  • An ability to lead from the front: balancing strategy with hands-on, day-to-day operational leadership
  • A collaborative, grounded and outcomes-oriented leadership style, with high emotional intelligence and resilience
