Overview

Westmead Hospital – Fixed Term Up to 0.5 FTE Postgraduate Fellow, Department of Renal and Transplantation Medicine. Location: Westmead Hospital within the Department of Renal Medicine and Transplantation Medicine.

Applications are invited from suitably qualified medical practitioners for the above position in the Western Sydney Local Health District. The position will be for 12 months, commencing in the 2026 Clinical Year (2 February 2026 to 31 January 2027).

Responsibilities and expectations

• Sound clinical knowledge in nephrology, dialysis and renal transplantation demonstrated through successful clinical practice in an appropriate environment.
• Familiarity with research concepts and a commitment to support basic, applied or clinical research within the Department.

Essential Requirements for Appointment

• Possess or be eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia and the Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP) as provided for in the Staff Specialists (State) Award/ Health Insurance Act 1997. Must have Australian Citizenship or Permanent Australian Residency. Must hold a current NSW Environment Protection Authority license (if applicable).
• Sound clinical knowledge in Renal Medicine, Kidney, Kidney pancreas and Islet Transplantation demonstrated through clinical practice.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Extensive clinical experience in managing complex chronic kidney disease, dialysis and transplant patients.
• Commitment to teaching and mentoring junior medical staff.
• Commitment to clinical and/or basic science research in nephrology and transplantation.
• Conditions of appointment are in accordance with the Staff Specialists (State) Award/ Health Services Act 1997.

Selection Criteria

• Please outline how you satisfy the selection criteria by addressing the listed skills, knowledge, qualifications and experience:
• Possess or be eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia and Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP). Must have Australian Citizenship or Permanent Australian Residency.
• Sound clinical knowledge in nephrology and renal transplantation and kidney pancreas transplantation demonstrated through clinical practice.
• Demonstrated senior medical practitioner attributes: high-level interpersonal and communication skills; ability to work within a multidisciplinary team; experience in quality assurance activities and evidence-based practice; commitment to teaching and supervision.
• Familiarity with research concepts and commitment to support basic, applied or clinical research within the Department.
• Experience in caring for renal transplant and dialysis patients in acute and chronic settings.
• Experience in managing renal transplant immunosuppression in acute and chronic settings.
• Familiarity with diagnosis and treatment of complications following kidney transplantation, CKD and dialysis patients.
