Tourism Central Australia (TCA) is the peak regional tourism organisation covering the Central Australia region, including the local government areas of Barkly, Central Desert, MacDonnell, and Alice Springs Town Council. TCA is one of two official Regional Tourism Organisations (RTOs) in the Northern Territory. It is a not-for-profit, membership-based organisation with a skilled staff team and governed by a Board of Management.
TCA's responsibilities include marketing the Central Australian tourism industry, providing advice and support to member businesses, operating visitor information centres in Alice Springs, Tennant Creek, and Yulara, and advocating for pro-tourism policies and developments.
As a business-led organisation, TCA collaborates with various stakeholders, including individuals, businesses, and government entities, to benefit the visitor economy. The organisation has a membership of under 400 diverse organisations that invest in TCA to support sector growth and regional development.
Position Objectives
The Tourism Business Support Officer is part of a small team dedicated to managing TCA's membership, supporting tourism operators with business information, and fostering industry development in Central Australia. The role involves working directly with members to enhance their business capacity and directing them to internal and external support services.
The officer aims to maximize member benefits, support industry growth, and develop opportunities by collaborating with stakeholders, including government and non-government agencies.
Internally, the role ensures effective communication across the organisation to promote awareness of member activities.
Role and Responsibilities
Under the guidance of the Membership and Industry Development Manager, the officer will:
- Work directly with tourism operators—both members and non-members—to provide tailored support.
- Assist operators in developing digital strategies to increase visibility and bookings via visitor centres and discovercentralaustralia.com.
- Identify and engage operators in business development, training, and mentoring aligned with regional priorities.
- Support planning and delivery of TCA member events.
- Travel within the Red Centre to provide in-person support and build regional connections.
- Help businesses leverage opportunities to grow visitation and strengthen their presence within TCA's ecosystem.
- Lead the development of industry resources, tools, and collateral for business support.
- Support members to maximize their membership benefits.
- Provide regular performance and outcomes reports to Tourism NT, the TCA Executive Team, and the TCA Board.
- Monitor KPIs, budgets, and funded program outcomes to ensure contractual compliance.
- Contribute to the Tourism Telegraph e-newsletter and other communications to promote support, training, and networking opportunities.
- Oversee contracts with consultants and providers delivering training and support services.
- Gather stakeholder feedback to inform program improvements and advocacy efforts.
- Support Visitor Centres during busy periods.
- Perform other duties as directed by the CEO and Executive Management.
