About The Department

What We Are Looking For

We're looking for a compassionate, student-centred leader with a strong track record in inclusive education. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in supporting students with diverse needs including disability, trauma, behaviour, and giftedness, along with a solid grasp of inclusive pedagogies and evidence-based interventions.

They will bring proven skills in staff leadership, professional development, and data-informed decision-making, as well as experience leading multidisciplinary teams to deliver positive student outcomes. A collaborative mindset and the ability to engage families, teachers, and specialists are essential.

This executive role reports to the College Executive Principal and requires strategic thinking, cultural responsiveness, and a strong commitment to continuous improvement.

Your Responsibilities

As the Deputy Principal (Special Education), your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Improve the educational outcomes of all students in your school, especially those with disabilities
  • Develop the quality of teaching and learning
  • Nurture positive relationships between students, teachers, the community and stakeholders.
  • Line manage the Students with Disability teachers across the college
  • Lead teams to develop quality systems to support student services
  • Is a member of the Executive Leadership Team and participates in school decision making processes as well as professional development to contribute to school goals, vision and planning.
  • Manage and coordinate the delivery of high-quality advice and support provided by the Special Education Program and/or Early Childhood Development Program.
  • Lead and manage the Special Education Program and/or Early Childhood Development Program to provide advice to classroom teachers for students with disability as needed.
  • Provide high quality advice to the school leadership team, classroom teachers and other school staff to develop, plan and implement effective reasonable adjustments for students with disability.
  • Coordinate and provide intensive targeted teaching for students requiring intervention.
  • Support Students with Disabilities teachers and other school leaders to access departmental or other external specialist services, professional development, and supports as needed.
  • Implement and coordinate school-wide systems including data systems to monitor students with disability and record the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability.
  • Form partnerships with parents, other government agencies, community groups, industry and business.
  • Understand the legislation and policies that impact on schooling especially in relation to students with disability.
  • Manage the human, financial, facilities and curriculum resources of the SEP/ECDP to achieve goals.
