Overview

FY26: Teacher, Special Education (HSM), Rock View ES, 1.0 FTE – Montgomery County Public Schools.

Under direction of the school principal and special education supervisor, the special education teacher provides direct instruction and instructional support to students with disabilities and collaborates with the general education teacher. Monitors and evaluates outcomes for students with disabilities. Assists in the development of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).

Special Requirements: Attends school meetings, programs, and activities outside the instructional day as mandated by the Montgomery County Education Association agreement. Teachers employed in special education schools or discrete special education service models are required to complete specific MCPS courses, including behavioral management and nonviolent crisis interventions. Teachers in identified schools/programs will be required to support behavioral interventions.

Job Specific Information

The wage range for this position is $64,591 to $131,472 based on education and experience. For information about benefits, please follow the link provided.

Responsibilities
  • Provide direct instruction and instructional support to students with disabilities; collaborate with the general education teacher.
  • Monitor and evaluate outcomes for students with disabilities; assist in the development of IEPs.
  • Attend required meetings, programs, and activities outside the instructional day as mandated.
  • Complete MCPS-required courses in behavioral management, including nonviolent crisis interventions.
  • Support behavioral interventions in identified schools/programs.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Special Education.
  • Knowledge of learning theory, differentiated instruction, developmental reading, child development, applied behavior analysis, and assessment.
  • Certification: Meets Maryland State Department of Education SPC I in special education; certification in a content area is desirable.
  • Two years of teaching experience at the appropriate level or student teaching in the area of exceptionality; other combinations may be considered.
  • Familiarity with MCPS curriculum, IEP, ESSA, IDEA, and related policies; strong communication skills; ability to adapt instructional programs and materials.
