Overview

Join to apply for the Ranger role at Queensland Government.

We are seeking a Marine Ranger for Moreton Bay Marine Park. Take the lead in protecting our marine environment. Reporting to the Ranger in Charge, you'll manage day-to-day park operations, including marine animal rescue, maintaining marine assets, monitoring natural values such as seagrass, turtles, and sharks, enforcing compliance zones and handling emergency responses. You will regularly work on commercial vessels as master or crew and be involved in diving operations. Strong communication skills are essential for engaging the public and promoting marine park values through education and presentations. This is a hands-on, impactful role in marine conservation.

Great Basin and Marine Parks (GBR&MP) Region is coordinating this temporary opportunity in the Great Barrier Reef World Heritage Area and across associated marine parks.

Role Focus
  • Lead and coordinate work teams to deliver projects, manage resources and maintain park infrastructure, including natural and cultural resource management.
  • Handle customer service, education, compliance enforcement, and assist in investigations related to park regulations.
  • Develop and implement emergency response plans for natural disasters, search and rescue and medical emergencies.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders, including Indigenous communities, and promote inclusive workplace culture.
Qualifications
  • An automatic/unrestricted manual driver's licence.
  • Formal qualifications in environmental management or marine biology would be highly regarded.
  • Additionally, Coxswain's and/or dive qualifications would be highly regarded.
