This continuous applicant pool is open for candidates interested in employment opportunities as a Head of Department - Student Services/Secondary/Student Engagement/Curriculum (primary, secondary, and Special schools) within the North Queensland Region. Applicants should meet the mandatory employment requirements as detailed in the attached role description. It is recommended that prospective applicants discuss their application with their current supervisor to seek support and confirm capacity to release.

Applications may be reviewed and considered throughout 2025, as vacancies within the North Queensland Region are identified. Submission of an application does not guarantee employment or an assessment response. Positions may range in duration up to a school semester.

This temporary vacancy is open to Expressions of Interest (EOI). Extensions will not exceed 12 months. For longer-term vacancies, the region may initiate a separate EOI or temporary advertisement, available through Smart Jobs. Relocation expenses or incentives may be discussed on a case-by-case basis, in line with relevant directives.

The region may use this EOI pool for short-term vacancies lasting from 1 week to 6 months.

About The Role

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Leading the school department to develop and implement a shared educational vision focused on providing quality learning outcomes for all students.
  • Embedding socially just practices in daily school life.
  • Setting high standards for student and staff performance.
  • Participating in lifelong learning and ongoing professional development.
  • Forming partnerships with students, parents, other government agencies, and community groups.
