At AFS, we're looking for a manager to lead a team of accounting professionals within our Business Services team. Our managers work closely with partners to deliver high-quality tax compliance, tax advisory, and business advisory services to a diverse portfolio of clients.

In this role, you'll:

  • Provide hands-on leadership and mentorship to your team, supporting their technical and professional development
  • Manage key client relationships, ensuring exceptional service and tailored, value-adding advice
  • Drive a culture of continuous improvement by optimising processes and embracing innovation and technology
  • Ensure compliance with evolving regulatory standards while maintaining the highest level of technical accuracy
  • Lead by example—fostering collaboration, providing constructive feedback, and guiding team members towards leadership growth

The successful applicant will be an ambitious professional with a strong desire to progress to Partner, demonstrating both commercial acumen and a commitment to long-term client and firm success.

We're a modern Chartered Accounting firm located in the heart of Bendigo, Djaara Country, with a team of over 100 professionals. We've been providing services to Bendigo and surrounds for over 75 years and are a proud pillar of the Bendigo community.

The team

Our Business Services team has the combined skills and expertise to provide ongoing support in the financial management business and to help put strategies in place to achieve success. Business Services provide assistance and support to help our clients through every stage of the business lifecycle, from starting their business, improving performance and obtaining the best outcome for every business transaction including valuations, due diligence and deal advice.

About you

The successful applicant will have:

  • A proven track record of leadership in a professional practice environment, with the ability to inspire, mentor, and develop high-performing accounting teams.
  • Extensive experience in business services accounting, with strong technical knowledge in tax compliance, tax advisory, and financial reporting.
  • A natural ability to lead by example, foster collaboration, and cultivate a positive and accountable team culture.
  • Demonstrated experience in coaching, providing feedback, and facilitating learning and development opportunities to support team growth and capability uplift.
  • A bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, commerce, or a related field.
  • Completion of Chartered Accountant (CA), CPA or equivalent.
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles, financial reporting standards, and current taxation legislation, with the ability to lead and mentor others in this space.
  • Proven ability to build and maintain trusted relationships with clients, promoting open communication and delivering strategic, value-added advice.
  • Commercial acumen and a strategic mindset, with the ability to identify growth opportunities for both clients and the firm.
  • Proficiency in modern accounting software and financial management systems.
  • Excellent analytical, decision-making, and problem-solving skills, with a solution-oriented approach.
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, with the confidence to engage with clients, team members, and partners alike.
